ARLINGTON, Texas - This game had plenty of big plays, from turnovers on defense, exciting touchdowns on offense and a special teams score that put the Seahawks away.
While the Cowboys were in control most of the day, here are a few plays that not only helped them get the lead, but keep it.
Forsett's Fumble
The Cowboys had already grabbed a 7-3 lead but instead of forcing another punt on Seattle's third-and-three, the defense caused a turnover. For the second straight week, Terence Newman's big hit forces a fumble, this time Orlando Scandrick scooping it up for a 15-yard return to the
Seattle 30. That play set up a Marion Barber touchdown, giving the Cowboys a 14-3 lead. Last week against Atlanta, Newman blasted Falcons WR Roddy White, forcing a fumble near the sideline, however, both Newman and Scandrick tried to recover it, but knocked the ball out of bounds, keeping Atlanta in possession.
More Interference On Austin
For the second time in the half, Miles Austin was held enough to draw a pass interference call on Seattle's Pro Bowl cornerback Marcus Trufant. While the first play near the goal line was a good call, this one was a little more questionable. Austin ran over Trufant while running a deep route, giving the Cowboys a first down on a third-and-nine play. That extended a drive the Cowboys eventually finished with a touchdown pass to Roy Williams. That penalty changed the game from a possible 14-10 halftime score to 21-10.
Hamlin's Break-Up
Been a while since we've included Ken Hamlin for a big play, and while it wasn't anything spectacular, he did deflect a pass intended for Nate Burleson in the third quarter to prevent a first down. The Cowboys led 21-10, but the Seahawks were driving near midfield. Hamlin's break-up, followed by an illegal substitution, set up third-and-14, and the Seahawks managed just six yards and had to punt. In a blowout like this, plays like that prevented Seattle from ever getting close in the second half.
Screen To Marty-B
Once again, nothing too outlandish here, but the Cowboys had just fumbled a reverse to Crayton and had a second-and-21 from their 40. To get a few yards back, the Cowboys called for a screen to Martellus Bennett, who shook two defenders for a 13-yard gain. Had they come away with nothing there, then the Cowboys likely wouldn't have tried a play on third down to move the chains. But with now a manageable third-and-eight, Romo hit Witten for nine yards and the Cowboys eventually scored a game-clinching touchdown on that drive.
Linebacker Three-And-Out
This is a series of plays for the Seahawks, who trailed 28-10 late in the third quarter. Anthony Spencer swatted away a first-down pass, and then Keith Brooking and Bradie James combined for a stop on a four-yard run by Julius Jones. On third down, James stopped Deon Branch after just five-yard completion, forcing another punt. This time, Crayton turned the punt around 82 yards for a touchdown to seal the game, if it wasn't already clinched.
