ARLINGTON, Texas - The Dallas Cowboys are again moving up the radio dial to 105.3 FM "The Fan" and plan to stay there for a good while.
Dallas-Fort Worth's burgeoning all-sports station has reached a multi-year agreement to become the Cowboys' new flagship radio network and broadcast the team's games beginning in 2009.
The Fan (KRLD-FM), a CBS-owned station serving the Dallas-Fort Worth area, switched to an all-sports format in December and is also broadcasting the Texas Rangers' weekday baseball games.
"We are proud to bring the Dallas Cowboys back to CBS RADIO Dallas," said David Henry, The Fan's senior vice president/general manager. "Very quickly we have been able to amass the best sports programming in the market. This is a tremendous partnership that will help build our brand for many years to come."
Play-by-play coverage of all Cowboys preseason, regular season and playoff games will be carried on The Fan in addition to daily reports from Valley Ranch, exclusive content from Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones twice a week and segments with head coach Wade Phillips.
Terms of the agreement were not disclosed, but Jones indicated that the partnership's length is more than 10 years.
"The longest-term agreement that I've ever been associated with, whether on a league level or whether on a club level with the Dallas Cowboys," Jones said at a Thursday press conference inside the team's new stadium in Arlington. "We're so pleased to be back with CBS. I serve on the broadcast committee and I know how meaningful the CBS tradition is."
The Fan also soon plans to launch a 24-hour Dallas Cowboys channel on HD Radio (105.3-3) featuring continuous Cowboys coverage.
The Fan's first official Cowboys broadcast will take place from this Saturday's 2009 NFL Draft Party at the Arlington Convention Center, featuring longtime play-by-play voice Brad Sham, co-host Sean Salisbury and player guests.
"One of the things that excites us the most of course is the powerful signal that we will enjoy with The Fan," Jones said. "At the end of the day, this is about accessibility to our fans, and the more we can make available interesting programming that has a place in not only the broadcast of our games but our shoulder programming.
"We are going to write a new book about how to maximize listening fans when it comes to not only our games but shoulder programming and content. We want to do something along the lines of what we're trying to do in this (stadium) venue, and that's be a 'wow factor.'"
The Cowboys and Sportsradio 1310 "The Ticket"/93.3 FM "The Bone" ended their three-year partnership in late January. "The Ticket" aired the Cowboys' games from 2006-08, featuring Sham and respected analyst Babe Laufenberg.
