IRVING, Texas - Three days after his visibly emotional
performance against Cincinnati, Cowboys receiver Terrell Owens was in "good
spirits" and focused on the Arizona Cardinals - specifically, how he can
contribute despite consistent extra coverage from opposing defenses.
Owens explained Tuesday on the Michael Irvin Show (ESPN 103.3 FM) that the
apparent tears after his 57-yard touchdown catch on the Bengals were the
culmination of a traumatic week due to a family member's death.
"I'm fine," Owens said. "I think it's a lot of speculation right there as far
as what my mental state of mind is. But honestly, I'm good."
Now it's on to the task at hand - beating a Cardinals team that knocked Bills
quarterback Trent Edwards out of last Sunday's game and held Buffalo to 17
points in a lopsided victory.
Owens said he's seeing more double coverage than ever this season - "They're
coming out of the chute putting two or three people on me" - and he probably can
expect the same from Arizona's defense. The Bengals limited him to two catches
for 67 yards, but one was his 57-yard score.
"I just take it series by series," said the Pro Bowl receiver, who is tied
for 33rd in the league with 19 catches for 331 yards and 5 touchdowns. "I think
I just try to focus more and just wait on the opportunities that come my way and
just make the best of those."
