January 20, 2008 Cowboys tight end Jason Witten is among four finalists for the NFL's Walter Payton Man of the Year award, given to the player who excels the most on and off the field. Witten had a career season for the Cowboys, leading the team with 96 catches. He is a finalist along with Jason Taylor, Brian Waters and Hines Ward.

December 10, 2007 Cowboys tight end Jason Witten not only set the club record for 15 catches in a game Sunday, but tied the NFL mark for a tight end, joining Kellen Winslow Sr., who set the record in 1984 with the Chargers. By recording 138 receiving yards, Witten also passed Doug Cosbie (3,728) on the Cowboys' all-time receiving list for a tight end. In just five seasons, Witten now has 3,793 receiving yards. |
November 26, 2007 Cowboys tight end Jason Witten is having another banner season and it's showing up in the stat sheet. Witten needs just one catch to become the sixth tight end in NFL history to record four straight seasons of at least 60 catches. Witten also needs only 29 receptions to surpass Jay Novacek (339) as the club's all-time leader in catches by a tight end. Witten trails only Doug Cosbie (3,728) in career receiving yards by 140 yards.

October 31, 2007 Cowboys tight end Jason Witten isn't just leading the team in receptions this year with 42, but he's chasing down players on the team's all-time receiving list. Witten only needs one catch to pass Daryl Johnston (294) for ninth on the team's list of all-time catches. He needs just 55 yards to surpass Tony Dorsett (3,432) for 10th place on the Cowboys' receiving yards list.
October 8, 2007 Cowboys tight end Jason Witten tied a career-high with nine catches Monday night for a game-high 103 yards. With his 22-yard touchdown grab in the second quarter, Witten now leads the club with four receiving touchdowns, after recording just one all of last seaon. After not recording a 100-yard game since the 2004 season, Witten now has two this year, with 116 receiving yards against the Giants and now 103 in Buffalo . . . Reserve tight end Tony Curtis didn't play much on offense but came up with a huge play on special teams, recovering the onside kick with just 18 seconds remaining that led to Nick Folk's game-winning field goal.
August 30, 2007 Cowboys tight end Tony Curtis all but locked up the third spot on the depth chart with yet another solid performance Thursday night in Minnesota. Curtis caught five passes for a team-high 44yards, including four balls on one scoring drive, that ended with his 5-yard touchdown pass from rookie Matt Moore. Curtis, who played in NFL Europa this spring, has distanced himself from the pack of Adam Bergen and Rodney Hannah and will likely fit as the third tight end behind Jason Witten and Anthony Fasano. |
August 9, 2007 Second-year tight end Anthony Fasano had three catches for 43 yards, leading the team in the first half of play. Fasano, considered more of a blocking tight end opposite Jason Witten, is expected to have a bigger role in the offense this year. In the second half, Tony Curtis had a strong performance, catching three passes for 58 yards, all one drive that ended with Tyson Thompson scoring on a 2-yard run.
June 13, 2007 Cowboys tight end Tony Curtis caught four passes for 43 yards, including a 35-yard touchdown to help NFL Europa's Cologne Centurions to a 31-13 win over Amsterdam. Cologne is now in a three-way tie with Frankfurt and Hamburg - all with 6-3 records - heading into the final week of the NFL Europe regular season. The top two records in the NFLE advance to the World Bowl.
June 5, 2007 The Cowboys signed two-year veteran tight end Adam Bergen, who spent the past two seasons with Arizona playing in 30 games, starting nine as a rookie free agent in 2005. Bergen missed the final two games of the 2006 season with a sprained knee and finished the season on injured reserve. Bergen joins a tight end position that includes three-time Pro Bowler Jason Witten and last year's second-round pick Anthony Fasano, along with youngsters Andy Thorn, Rodney Hannah and Tony Curtis, who is playing in NFL Europe this spring.
May 7, 2007 Cowboys tight end Tony Curtis caught four passes for 37 yards, including his first touchdown of the season last weekend in NFL Europe. Playing for the Cologne Centurions, Curtis clearly had his best performance of the season through the first four games. Curtis, who spent most of the last two years on the Cowboys' practice squad, had just one catch for 10 yards in the first three games for Cologne. |
February 13, 2007 Cowboys tight end Tony Curtis is one of three players the club is planning to send to NFL Europe this spring. Curtis, who was on the active roster for nearly two weeks this season, spent the rest of the year on the practice squad. The undrafted tight end from Portland State was also on the practice squad for the entire 2005 season. Curtis is headed overseas along with defensive tackle Remi Ayodele, who was just re-signed to the team last week, along linebacker John Saldi. The former Texas Tech standout spent training camp with the Cowboys last summer and was re-signed to the team after the season ended in January.
January 26, 2007 Cowboys tight end Jason Witten is headed to the Pro Bowl for the third straight year. The Cowboys' 24-year-old tight end was added to the NFC squad as an injury replacement for the New York Giants' Jeremy Shockey. Witten finished second in the NFC and sixth in the league with 64 catches and 754 receiving yards in 2006. He's the fourth tight end in franchise history to make multiple Pro Bowl appearances, alongside Jay Novacek (5 times), Doug Cosbie (3) and Billy Joe DuPree (3). Witten is now the fifth Cowboys player headed to the NFL's all-star game on Feb. 11. Quarterback Tony Romo, linebacker DeMarcus Ware, punter Mat McBriar and safety Roy Williams were selected in December.
December 26, 2006 The Cowboys re-signed first-year tight end Andy Thorn to the practice squad. Thorn was released on Saturday to make room for rookie cornerback Quincy Butler, who was signed from the practice squad and actually played Monday against the Eagles. Thorn, who made his NFL debut last week in Atlanta, cleared waivers and took Butler's spot on the practice squad. Thorn has spent most of the year on the Cowboys' practice squad after being released by the Eagles after the preseason.
December 25, 2006 Cowboys tight end Jason Witten tied his single-game, season-high with six receptions Monday, giving him 60 receptions for the year. This is his third consecutive 60-catch season. It is the seventh time in club history that a Dallas tight end has recorded at least 60 receptions: Jason Witten (2004-06), Jay Novacek (1992 and 1995 seasons) and Doug Cosbie (1984-85) . . . Rookie tight end Anthony Fasano also had two catches for 13 yards on the Cowboys' second offensive possession. |
December 14, 2006 The Cowboys signed Andy Thorn from the practice squad to the active roster. With Hoyte questionable to play, Thorn could give the Cowboys another blocker for Saturday's game. He becomes the third tight end now on the roster behind Jason Witten and Anthony Fasano. Green, a fourth-round pick from LSU, has been released three times since September. If he clears waivers again, he'll likely return to the practice squad, possibly filling Thorn's spot.
December 3, 2006 While Jason Witten provided one of the more memorable offensive plays of the day, hauling in a 42-yard reception that set up the game-winning field goal, another tight end helped get the Cowboys in the end zone earlier in the game. Rookie tight end Anthony Fasano drew a pass interference penalty on Giants linebacker Antonio Pierce in the end zone. The Cowboys got the ball on the Giants' 1 and scored on the next play - a rushing touchdown by Marion Barber . . . Witten had three catches for 73 yards, while Fasano did not catch a pass for the first time in three weeks.
November 24, 2006 The Cowboys claimed second-year guard Joe Berger off waivers Friday after he was released by Miami. To make room for Berger, the Cowboys released first-year tight end Tony Curtis, who has been inactive the past two games. Curtis, who spent last season on the practice squad, was signed to the team's 53-man roster Oct. 13, and had played in four games this year. The Cowboys now have just two tight ends on the active roster, Jason Witten and Anthony Fasano. They also have tight end Andy Thorn on the practice squad.
October 13, 2006 The Cowboys signed Tony Curtis from the practice squad and will likely use him in Sunday's game against Houston. Curtis spent all of last season, and the first five weeks this year on the practice squad. The Cowboys need Curtis to replace the spot of Ryan Hannam, who was placed on IR this week with a knee injury. |
October 12, 2006 The Cowboys placed fifth-year veteran tight end Ryan Hannam on injured reserve Thursday with a nagging knee injury that will require surgery. Hannam, who signed a four-year, $5 million deal in March, has been bothered by a sore knee since training camp and was inactive for the two games in which the Cowboys used kickers Mike Vanderjagt and Shaun Suisham. The Cowboys signed Hannam to essentially replace veteran Dan Campbell, the club's blocking tight end last year. In four previous seasons with Seattle, Hannam had 22 catches for 215 yards and two touchdowns. He didn't record any statistics in two games this season.
October 11, 2006 Cowboys head coach Bill Parcells said tight end Ryan Hannam has been bothered by a nagging knee injury since training camp. But he has yet to miss any practices, including Wednesday's practice at Valley Ranch. However, Hannam has been inactive for two games this season, including Sunday's loss in Philadelphia. With just two tight ends, the Cowboys rely heavily on Jason Witten and Anthony Fasano, but could use fullback Lousaka Polite at tight end, if needed. The Cowboys also have two tight ends on the practice squad - Tony Curtis and Andy Thorn. |
October 3, 2006 Tight end Jerome Collins, who joined the Cowboys' practice squad on Sept. 3, signed with the Colts on Tuesday, moving to Indianapolis' 53-man roster. To replace Collins, the Cowboys have added tight end Andy Thorn to their eight-man practice squad. Thorn spent the entire 2005 season on the Eagles' practice squad and went to training camp with Philadelphia again this year, but was released before the regular season. Thorn is the second tight end on the squad along with Tony Curtis, and the second Cowboys tight end from Northern Iowa, where veteran Ryan Hannam attended. |
September 3, 2006 The Cowboys enter the regular season with just three tight ends, which is rather light considering the offense playing more two-tight end sets. Jason Witten will obviously be the featured receiver, but rookie Anthony Fasano is expected to contribute and Ryan Hannam has been solid in the blocking game. Fullback Lousaka Polite can also help in this area, especially in an H-back role. The Cowboys will probably try to get Tony Curtis back on the practice squad, if possible. |
August 23, 2006 The Cowboys cut tight end Erik Jensen on Wednesday, trimming the position to just five players - Jason Witten, Anthony Fasano, Ryan Hannam, Sean Ryan and Tony Curtis. |
August 12, 2006 So much for a smashing return to his former team. Tight end Ryan Hannam was a non-factor in Saturday's game against the Seahawks, the team he played four seasons with prior to signing with the Cowboys in March. Hannam played sparingly in the second quarter and some on special teams . . . Jason Witten was the only tight end to catch a pass, recording two catches for 13 yards. |
July 30, 2006 Brett Pierce suffered a season-ending - and possibly career-ending - torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during the Cowboys' first day of training camp practice. The Cowboys eventually will place him on injured reserve. Incredibly, the tear was to the ACL doctors reconstructed last year after he suffered the same injury to the same knee against Detroit on Nov. 20. Pierce underwent reconstructive surgery Dec. 16 and was cleared to take part in the team's early-June mini-camp after spending the off-season rehabilitating. |
July 23, 2006 The Cowboys handed Pro Bowl tight end Jason Witten a seven-year, $29 million contract on Saturday. Witten, who was entering the final season of his original four-year contract he signed in 2003, will earn nearly $13 million over the next eight months. Not only did he receive a $6 million signing bonus on Saturday, but he will also get another guaranteed $6 million option bonus next March, not to mention a base salary of about $500,000 this season. |
July 7, 2006 Cowboys tight end Jason Witten has said he is hoping to get a contract extension before the team heads off to training camp in Oxnard, Calif. on July 27. Witten, who is entering the final season of his original four-year contract, is likely seeking a deal that would pay him among the top five tight ends in the league. Witten caught 66 passes for 757 yards and six touchdowns last year, but still made his second consecutive Pro Bowl. The fourth-year tight end had a breakthrough season in 2004 when he broke Cowboys tight end records with 87 receptions for 980 yards. With the Cowboys expecting to play more of a two tight-end set in the near future, expect Witten to not only be re-signed, but a mainstay in the offense for years to come.
June 5, 2006 After participating in the recent minicamp, Danny Young was released by the Cowboys. The tight end/long-snapper was signed on Jan. 16 before the Cowboys had re-signed last year's long-snapper, L.P. Ladouceur. |
May 24, 2006 Erik Gill's stay in Dallas was a short one as the former Pitt tight end was released Thursday. Gill, mostly a blocker, was trying to make the team as a rookie-free agent but couldn't earn an extended look from Cowboys coaches. |
May 12, 2006 Pitt tight end Erik Gill signed with the Cowboys Monday after going undrafted over the weekend. More of a blocker, the 6-5, 275-pound Gill could find his way into training camp for an extended look from Cowboys coaches after finishing his collegiate career with 48 catches for 710 yards and five scores. |
April 29, 2006 In the second round the Cowboys picked up tight end Anthony Fasano of Notre Dame. The 6-4, 259-pound Fasano is built in the mold of Mark Bavaro, the former tight end of the New York Giants who also played under Bill Parcells and also went to Notre Dame. The Cowboys say they are planning to team Fasano with two-time Pro Bowler Jason Witten in a two-tight end offense. |
March 18, 2006 The Cowboys signed tight end Ryan Hannam to a four-year contract worth $5 million. Hannam earned a reputation as a ferocious blocker and an able pass-catcher during his four-year stint with Seattle. Hannam caught the Seahawks' lone touchdown in their 13-10 win over the Cowboys last year. He will compete with Pro Bowl tight end Jason Witten and the rest of the tight ends on the roster for playing time in the Cowboys' two-tight end set. |
January 3, 2006 The Cowboys signed first-year tight end Tony Curtis to a one-year deal. Curtis spent the entire 2005 season on the Cowboys' practice squad. Curtis initially was invited to the Cowboys' 2005 mini-camp and was signed as an undrafted rookie free agent shortly thereafter. He likely will be competing with Sean Ryan and Brett Pierce for a spot on the 2006 roster at the third tight end.
December 30, 2005 Dan Campbell will receive the 2005 Ed Block Courage Award, given to a player who bests displays courage and sportsmanship. Campbell has played in all 15 games this year after suffering a season-ending foot injury in 2004. He also returned from an emergency appendectomy in just nine days at the beginning of training camp. |
November 10, 2005 Tight end Jason Witten isn't posting the same Pro Bowl numbers from a year ago, but Parcells is still pleased with Witten's all-around contribution to the offense. "He's a factor in the game, that's all I care about," head coach Bill Parcells said. "I don't care about numbers. I care if he's a factor and they have to be concerned with him and I am certain most teams are."
September 26, 2005 Third-year pro Jason Witten led the Cowboys in receptions Sunday against the 49ers with six, resulting in 85 yards and a touchdown. However, all of Witten's catches occurred in the first half. But that must have opened things up for the wide receivers, including Terry Glenn, who had only two catches for 29 yards in the first two quarters. He finished with five for 137 yards and had two long pass plays on the last two touchdown drives.
September 5, 2005 The Cowboys had to make some tough decisions here over the weekend, cutting Sean Ryan, a second-year pro who missed all of camp with a broken foot. While Ryan was expected to be ready by this time, the Cowboys simply felt more comfortable keeping Brett Pierce as the third tight end behind Jason Witten and Dan Campbell. But Ryan was re-signed to the practice squad and could make his way back to the 53-man roster at any time during the season. The Cowboys also cut Jeff Robinson, a veteran deep snapper who has been used on the goal line the past two years, catching four passes for four touchdowns. The team also waived rookie Tony Curtis, who has been out with a foot injury. The undrafted rookie from Portland State was signed to the practice squad.
August 28, 2005 For the second straight game, the tight end wasn't a big factor for the Cowboys as Pro Bowler Jason Witten had just two catches for 13 yards. Dan Campbell also had two grabs for 15 yards. But seventh-round pick Jay Ratliff was used as a third tight end in goal-line situations, as was defensive tackle Leo Carson, who lined up at fullback. |
August 25, 2005 Head coach Bill Parcells has a combined total he wants to keep at tight end, running back and fullback, but he's not sure how each position will break down. Jason Witten and Dan Campbell are locks to make the team, which leaves Sean Ryan, who missed almost all of camp with a broken foot, and Brett Pierce battling for the third spot unless Parcells decides to keep four.
August 18, 2005 Head coach Bill Parcells again praised Brett Pierce's value to the team on Thursday, saying he can serve as an emergency deep snapper in addition to playing tight end. Pierce has impressed Parcells with his pass-catching ability throughout camp, but Parcells said he saw signs of that last season as well. Pierce was considered predominantly a blocking tight end when he signed with the Cowboys last season. With Pierce's emergence, it appears Parcells may keep four pure tight ends on his roster this season: Jason Witten, Dan Campbell, Sean Ryan and Pierce.
August 8, 2005 Brett Pierce is starting to make the most of tight end Sean Ryan's absence, following up a solid performance in last Saturday's scrimmage with a good showing in Monday afternoon's practice. Pierce, one of three players head coach Bill Parcells said stood out in the scrimmage, caught a would-be game-winning catch during a two-minute Parcells orchestrated toward the end of practice. Pierce needed a good camp because Ryan enjoyed a solid off-season and a good first day of camp before fracturing the fifth metatarsal in his left foot.
August 1, 2005 Second-year pro Sean Ryan suffered a fractured foot in Saturday's afternoon practice and has been sent back to Dallas, where he had successful surgery Sunday night to repair the fracture to his fifth metatarsal in his left foot.
Cowboys head coach Bill Parcells said Ryan, who had a screw inserted into this foot, could possibly be ready to return for the regular-season opener in San Diego on Sept. 11. The Cowboys did sign Mike Gomez, who has played in NFL Europe and had short stints with both Jacksonville and Buffalo.
July 29, 2005 Dan Campbell just can't catch a break. Campbell discovered shortly after arriving in Oxnard, Calif., that he will miss at least a week of practice, if not more, after undergoing appendectomy surgery Thursday night. Much like last season when Campbell missed 13 games with torn ligaments in his right foot, tight ends Sean Ryan and Brett Pierce will be given increased snaps in Campbell's absence. |
May 3, 2005 With Jason Witten making the Pro Bowl in just his second year, Dan Campbell returning from a foot injury and Sean Ryan had a nice ending to his rookie season, there isn't much room for another tight end to make this team. However, the Cowboys did have a few big bodies running around at tight end in last week's mini-camp.
The Cowboys signed two rookie free agent tight ends in Fresno State's Duncan Reid (6-6, 231) and Tony Curtis (6-5, 269) from Portland State. Also, eligible to work out was first-year pro Landon Trusty, who was back and forth on the Cowboys' practice squad last year. Trusty actually had the best three days of all the tight ends, making several tough catches.
February 14, 2005 Second-year pro Jason Witten caught three passes for 50 yards in Sunday's Pro Bowl. Witten was selected to the game for the first time after enjoying the most productive season by a Cowboys tight end in club history. Witten caught 87 passes for 980 yards and six touchdowns. He became the first Cowboys tight end to make the Pro Bowl since Jay Novacek in 1995. |
December 21, 2004 Cowboys tight end Jason Witten made team history against Philadelphia, setting two single-season records for most receiving yards and receptions by a Dallas tight end. Witten's six catches for 66 yards against the Eagles gives him season totals of 73 catches for 853 yards, topping Novacek's 68 receptions in 1992 and Doug Cosbie's 793 yards in 1985. |
November 29, 2004 The Cowboys made a minor roster adjustment the day before the Bears game, releasing cornerback Lenny Williams and promoting tight end Sean Ryan from the practice squad. Ryan, the Cowboys' fifth-round pick out of Boston College, gave head coach Bill Parcells another sturdy blocker with Richie Anderson (concussion) inactive against the Bears. Ryan has been on the Cowboys' eight-man practice squad the entire season.
October 13, 2004 The Cowboys released tight end Mikhael Ricks on Wednesday to make room for linebacker Ryan Fowler on the 53-man roster. Rookie tight end Landon Trusty also was re-signed to the practice squad . . . The Cowboys had signed Ricks, a six-year veteran, for his pass-catching ability after tight end Dan Campbell was placed on injured reserve with torn ligaments in his foot. The Cowboys then signed Brett Pierce - more of blocker in Campbell's mold - off Baltimore's practice squad and activated him for the Giants game to help protect quarterback Vinny Testaverde against New York's blitzing defense. Ricks was inactive against the Giants . . . Ricks' release leaves the Cowboys with only Pierce and Jason Witten on the active roster. Witten leads the team with 17 receptions for 156 yards and a touchdown, but he made two critical errors against the Giants - a first-quarter false start that held Dallas to only a field goal, and a second-quarter fumble that halted another potential scoring drive. |
October 4, 2004 The Cowboys released rookie wide receiver Patrick Crayton, a seventh-round pick from Northwestern Oklahoma State, and signed first-year tight end Brett Pierce to their 53-man roster. Pierce (6-5, 250 pounds), an undrafted rookie out of Stanford who has been on Baltimore's practice squad, will be the Cowboys' third tight end behind Jason Witten and six-year veteran Mikhael Ricks, who signed last week. The Cowboys are looking for replacements for Dan Campbell, a veteran tight end and locker room leader who was placed on injured reserve last week after suffering torn ligaments in his foot . . . While Ricks was signed for his pass-catching ability, Pierce is more of a blocker in the mold of Campbell. Pierce had only 11 catches for 84 yards as a senior at Stanford. |
September 23, 2004 Tight end Jason Witten says his cheekbone is not fractured despite noticeable swelling, and he will play Monday against Washington. Witten suffered the injury last Sunday against Cleveland, when he caught six passes for 82 yards. He broke his lower jaw last season and missed one game . . . Tight end Landon Trusty rejoined the Cowboys' practice squad this week, replacing wide receiver Tom Crowder. Trusty was released by the Cowboys Sept. 8. |
September 14, 2004 Second-year pro Jason Witen is expected to have a bigger role in the offense this year, but his season-opener was less than stellar. Witten did catch three passes for 17 yards. Starting tight end Dan Campbell was held without a catch. |
September 7, 2004 The Cowboys shuffled their tight end position around, by cutting rookie Sean Ryan on Monday. But on Tuesday, the club brought him back, signing him to the eight-man practice squad . . . The Cowboys had signed rookie Landon Trusty to the practice squad, but released him to make room for Ryan . . . The Cowboys will enter Sunday's game in Minnesota with just two tight ends - Dan Campbell and Jason Witten - although deep snapper Jeff Robinson is expected to play in short-yardage and goal-line situations.
September 6, 2004 The Cowboys will likely enter Sunday's game in Minnesota with just two tight ends - Jason Witten and Dan Campbell -- along with deep snapper Jeff Robinson, who is the team's deep snapper. But the Cowboys released rookie Sean Ryan, a fifth-round draft pick from Boston College. The Cowboys cut Ryan, who didn't show them enough on special teams, with hopes they can possibly re-sign him to the practice squad. If so, the Cowboys might not need two tight ends on the practice squad. The club is expected to sign rookie Landon Trusty to the eight-player developmental squad on Tuesday. |
August 22, 2004 A pair of rookies came up big on the final drive of the game, including fifth-round pick Sean Ryan, who dropped a third-down pass in the final 20 seconds, but came back and caught a 13-yard pass on fourth down that set up Tony Romo's touchdown . . . Rookie free agent Landon Trusty caught a seven-yard pass on fourth-and-one, extending the drive in the final two minutes of play . . . Regular starter Dan Campbell didn't play Saturday night because of a strained groin. Second-year pro Jason Witten started in Campbell's place.
August 15, 2004 Second-year pro Jason Witten led the Cowboys with three catches Saturday night in Houston, although the tight end gained just 15 yards. Witten is expected to get an increased role in the offense this year, after catching 28 of his 35 passes last year in the final eight games. Witten played most of the first half, and showed some open-field elusiveness with the ball . . . Rookie Sean Ryan played in the second half and caught one pass for six yards late in the fourth. |
August 10, 2004 Just before the start of training camp, it appeared there might be some serious competition at tight end, involving a few players at the bottom of the depth chart. But with James Whalen released a week before heading off to camp, and the Cowboys not exactly using deep snapper Jeff Robinson much in the offense so far, the competition has dwindled. If there is a question mark, it involves rookie free agent Landon Trusty, who signed with the club in late June. Trusty, who is getting a good share of practice reps, is trying to move ahead fifth-round pick Sean Ryan on the depth chart. Neither player should challenge either Dan Campbell or Jason Witten, who both seem to be fixtures in the Cowboys' offense. |
August 3, 2004 The Cowboys have been using all of their tight ends in various roles so far in camp, even putting rookies Sean Ryan and Landon Trusty in some short-yardage and goal-line situations. But it will be difficult to get playing time with this group, as both Jason Witten and Dan Campbell were impressive last year, and appear to be on track once again. Witten's toughest defender so far has been Bill Parcells. During the end of Tuesday's afternoon practice, Witten knocked down the head coach while reaching for a sideline pass. Witten, whom Parcells called a "pretty boy" just two days earlier, joked with the media after practice, saying "maybe he won't call me that anymore."
June 16, 2004 This position might have the most depth than any other, headlined by second-year pro Jason Witten, who is coming off a solid rookie season. Witten came on strong late in the season, catching 28 of his 35 passes in the final eight games and Parcells said he expects him to have a bigger role in the offense this year.
Veteran Dan Campbell is one of the team's better blockers, but surprised the club with his pass-catching ability, grabbing 20 receptions last year.
Four-year veteran James Whalen is one of the team's best special teams player, and still has arguably the best hands on the team. The club drafted Sean Ryan, from Boston College, in the fifth round of the draft. Whalen and Ryan, along with rookie free agent Landon Trusty, will all likely compete for that third tight end spot.
And don't forget about Jeff Robinson, the team's deep snapper on field goals and extra points. He played some in goal-line situations, catching two passes for two touchdowns.
