**15\. Joe Thomas:** One of the players who gets forgotten the most. But even when Sean Lee went down with a knee injury earlier in camp, Thomas steps right in at SAM linebacker and the Cowboys don’t miss a beat. Thomas is an enforcer, even at practice. He doesn’t always knock players to the ground, but he likes to give a “love tap” here and there to show his presence. Lee will likely get back by the start of the season but there is definitely a role for Thomas.

Rank’Em: Best 15 Players of Training Camp

The Cowboys have 15 players on the roster who have made a Pro Bowl. But only four of them made our Top 15 players of training camp, where plenty of youngsters came to play.

Travis Frederick had one of those plays in team period where you’re starting to see things coming back to him. Before his illness, he was one of the best centers in the league when it came to playing in space. When he gets out on the edge, he generally stays on his feet and finds his target. I haven’t seen him pull much in these practices, but today I got a little glimpse of him doing just that. He was able to get out on the edge and put a nice shot on Jaylon Smith, which allowed Tony Pollard to make the cut behind him. I feel like Frederick is still not what he once was -- but I am starting to see those signs.

If there’s a player that’s seeing the field better than Chidobe Awuzie, I don’t know who it is. You can count on him every practice to knock at least one or two passes down. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a long pass down the sideline or the one from Tuesday, where Reggie Davis ran a five-yard curl with the ball coming out quick. What has also been impressive about Awuzie’s play has been the body control that’s he’s used to pull these plays off. He doesn’t go through the receivers to make the play but instead he works around their shoulder, staying off of them and avoiding a possible flag.

Scout’s Eye: Lewis’ INT; A New WR Standout?

With another preseason game already on the horizon, Bryan Broaddus is seeing some new contenders for playing time establishing themselves on the Cowboys’ practice fields.

It’s still good to see Jason Witten get called out for Compete Period. I do wish these battles were still against Byron Jones, who never backed down from a fight with Witten. In Jones’ spot now is Jeff Heath and that hasn’t been bad, either. Heath has had his days in the sun when it comes to carrying big-time tight ends. On this particular rep Witten got the best of Heath by using his power and body position to buy himself some space. At the top of the route, Witten was leaning hard on Heath, who had no choice but to fight back. Once Witten felt that, he was able to push away and leave Heath in a position where he had to chase. Dak Prescott threw an easy pass to catch and Witten did just that.

**Ricky Walker** – A week ago, he was probably the one player that had been mentioned the least here at camp. But once the lights came on Saturday night, Walker emerged as a rookie who was active in the game, disrupting the pocket and making plays in the backfield. He still has a long way to go get in the mix to make this team but Saturday was a good start.
