Trivia Thursday: Dallas-Washington rivalry answers
The answers for the Cowboys-Commanders trivia questions leading up to Sunday's Week 7 game.

2) How many former Cowboys players are currently on the Commanders roster?
There are four players who saw action with Dallas who are now suiting up for Washington: defensive end Dorance Armstrong (2018-23), center Tyler Biadasz (2020-23; pictured), wide receiver Noah Brown (2017-22) and cornerback Noah Igbinoghene (2023).

3) Who is the only Pro Football Hall of Famer to play for both Dallas and Washington?
Deion Sanders came to the Cowboys in 1995 and spent five seasons with the team, totaling 14 interceptions. He helped Dallas win the Super Bowl in his first year before then earning four trips to the Pro Bowl and three first-team All-Pro honors over the next four campaigns. Sanders went on to play the 2000 season in Washington, where he added four more picks.

4) Heading into this upcoming game with the Commanders, Dak Prescott has 27 career touchdown passes vs. Washington. That's tied with which Dallas quarterback for the most against the team in Cowboys history?
With one touchdown toss against the Commanders, Prescott will break his current tie with Tony Romo (27) for the most in franchise history versus Washington. Troy Aikman is third (23), Don Meredith ranks fourth (21) and Danny White fifth (19). Among that group, Prescott has also played the Commanders the fewest times. This will mark just the 14th occasion he's faced the club.

5) This former Washington player was talked out of retirement to become the first starting quarterback in the history of the Cowboys.
"The Little General" Eddie Lebaron made the Pro Bowl three times in his seven years with Washington but had decided to hang up his cleats after the 1959 season to become a lawyer. Instead, the Cowboys convinced him to join their expansion franchise for the 1960 campaign and mentor rookie Don Meredith. LeBaron went on to play four seasons with Dallas, earning another Pro Bowl nod in 1962. After retiring for good, he eventually became a broadcaster for CBS and served as the Atlanta Falcons' general manager from 1977-82.

6) Who was the last player to score four touchdowns in a game for the Cowboys, doing so on Nov. 18, 2007 vs. Washington?
The Redskins simply had no answer for Terrell Owens in this one as the mercurial wide receiver caught eight passes for 173 yards and a career-high four touchdowns to lead Dallas to a 28-23 victory. He became the seventh and most recent player in franchise history to notch four scores, which also tied the team record for most points in a game, totaling 24.

7) In a 2021 win over Washington, the Cowboys scored 56 points and saw seven different players score a touchdown, including what offensive lineman?
Terence Steele became the first Cowboys offensive lineman since 1968 to score a touchdown, joining Rayfield Wright. In this blowout win, eight touchdowns were scored by Dallas, tying a team record, by seven different players, which set a new club mark.
Ezekiel Elliott had both rushing and receiving scores while Amari Cooper, Dalton Schultz, Malik Turner and offensive lineman Terence Steele (pictured) all had touchdown catches. In addition, defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence returned an interception 40 yards for a touchdown and fellow defensive end Chauncey Golston fell on a blocked punt in the end zone. It also was the first time in franchise history that both a Cowboys offensive and defensive lineman scored in the same game.

8) This player became the first in Cowboys history to top 240 receiving yards in a game, recording 241 vs. Washington on Sept. 16, 1962.
Frank Clarke set personal highs in catches (10), receiving yards (241) and touchdown grabs (3) in the Cowboys' 35-35 tie with Washington. A team record at the time, he is still one of only three players in franchise history to top the 240 mark. Miles Austin posted 250 at Kansas City on Nov. 11, 2009, while Bob Hayes totaled 246 at Washington on Nov. 13, 1966.

9) Twenty players in Cowboys history have caught three touchdown passes in a game. On Dec. 29, 2019, vs. Washington, this player became the last to accomplish the feat.
Washington was no match for Dallas in this one as the Cowboys took down their rival, 47-16. Michael Gallup didn't top the 100-yard receiving mark in this one, totaling 98, but he did haul in three touchdown receptions to join the team's exclusive club.

10) Dan Quinn held what position with the Cowboys before becoming the Commanders head coach?
Quinn served as the Cowboys' defensive coordinator from 2021-23. The defense finished among the NFL's top five for fewest points allowed in each of his seasons in Dallas.

11) In one of the greatest games in franchise history, this quarterback led the Cowboys to a last-second, come-from-behind victory over Washington on Dec. 16, 1979.
The Cowboys were down, 34-21, with less than three minutes remaining when Roger Staubach first hit running back Ron Springs for a 26-yard touchdown pass before then connecting with wideout Tony Hill in the end zone with only 39 seconds left to complete the 35-34 win. With the victory, Dallas won the NFC East and knocked the 10-6 Redskins out of the playoffs. This would also be Captain Comeback's last regular season game as Staubach retired after the season.

12) After that historic win in 1979, what did Harvey Martin throw into the Redskins' locker room?

13) This receiver finished with 180 receiving yards and two touchdowns, including a 90-yarder, in a 31-23 home win over Washington on Nov. 22, 2018. That marked the highest single-game yardage total of his career when having fewer than 10 catches.
The recently retired Amari Cooper was practically unstoppable in this Thanksgiving matchup. Even though he caught just eight passes in the game, he not only broke loose for a 90-yard touchdown but also notched a 40-yard score as well.

True or false. Despite putting 32 points on the board in their victory over Washington on Dec. 10, 2000, the Cowboys threw the ball only eight times, the fewest for a game in team history.
True. Troy Aikman got the start, but after completing 2 of 3 passes for 16 yards, he was forced to leave the game due to yet another concussion. While Anthony Wright took over behind center, running back Emmitt Smith would take over the game, rushing for 150 yards and a touchdown in the 32-13 win. With that kind of production, Wright tried only five passes, completing three for 73 yards. Unfortunately, it would be the last game Aikman would ever play as he made the decision to retire following the season.
15) Which defensive lineman scored the Cowboys' only touchdown in a 30-7 loss to Washington on Sept. 24, 1989?
Washington was on the road to winning that season's Super Bowl while the Cowboys, in the first year of the Jerry Jones/Jimmy Johnson era, would win just one game. (Surprisingly, that win came at Washington later in the schedule). So unable to get much going on offense, Dallas' only score came when defensive end Jim Jeffcoat scooped up a fumble and rumbled 77 yards for a touchdown, the sixth-longest fumble return in team history. That was also the fourth and final touchdown of his career. Jeffcoat returned two interceptions and two fumbles for scores during his 15-year tenure in the NFL.

16) How many of Thurman's Thieves intercepted a pass in the Cowboys' 44-10 win versus Washington on Sept. 9, 1985?
Six of the eight players who were collectively nicknamed Thurman's Thieves picked off a pass in this rout of the Redskins, which is the second-highest interception total for a game in franchise history. Dennis Thurman himself and Victor Scott both had pick-6s, the first of just four times in club record books two interceptions have been returned for a touchdown in the same game. In addition, Bill Bates, Michael Downs, Ron Fellows and Everson Walls were the other thieves in this Monday night showdown. As a team, Dallas finished with 33 picks that season, still the most in Cowboys archives.

17) Emmitt Smith had his longest rush of his career occur against Washington in 1991. How long was the TD run?
Emmitt Smith broke open for a 75-yard touchdown in a 1991 loss to the Redskins. It was his second-longest play from scrimmage of his career, but the longest rushing attempt.

18) The Cowboys have hosted Washington on Thanksgiving Day 11 times in team history, the most of any other opponent. What is the Cowboys record in those matchups?
The Cowboys are 9-2 all-time vs. Washington on Thanksgiving Day. The last victory was a 2023 win at AT&T Stadium where the Cowboys torched Washington 45-10. DaRon Bland had an NFL-record fifth interception return for a TD in the season and Dak Prescott passed for 331 yards and four touchdowns, sharing the MVP honors for the game.

19) In 2005, the Cowboys saw a 13-0 fourth-quarter lead evaporate on two TD scores by Santana Moss. The 14-13 loss to Washington spoiled the night that included whose Ring of Honor ceremony?
