The Texas Army National Guard and the Dallas Cowboys have teamed up for a community outreach partnership that recognizes North Texas area high school football coaches for their positive impact on their teams, school and community through hard work and dedication to young athletes.
The 2012 season marks the 18th year the Dallas Cowboys have honored high school football coaches with the Coach of the Week program. The 10-week recognition program spans the length of the high school football regular season (beginning the first weekend of September and concluding in mid-November) and is designed to aid and promote high school football and the development of youth football.
"We are excited to be able to support the Coach of the Week program with the Dallas Cowboys", states Texas Army National Guard Recruiting and Retention Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Jason T. Hart. "This serves as an opportunity for the Texas Army National Guard to celebrate excellence and the selfless service demonstrated within our communities and schools, by recognizing these high school coaches who continue to exceed expectations and mentor our young athletes."
As part of the Coach of the Week program supported by Texas Army National Guard, a $2,000 grant will be provided by Gene and Jerry Jones Family Charities to the selected coach’s high school football program during an in-school presentation attended by Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders, Cowboys mascot ROWDY or Texas Army National Guard personnel. The honoree will also receive a one-of-a-kind framed certificate signed by Cowboys Head Coach Jason Garrett, Dallas Cowboys Owner and General Manager Jerry Jones and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

“The Dallas Cowboys are extremely proud to honor high school football coaches through the Coach of the Week program. We are equally proud to partner with the Texas Army National Guard on this special initiative,” said Charlotte Anderson, Dallas Cowboys Executive Vice President. ”Cowboys football is about competition on the field and making a difference in our community off the field. We believe that honoring high school football coaches, their teams and community is a way for us to say ‘Thank You’ for their hard work in shaping young football players into the very best that they can be.”
The goal of the Coach of the Week program is to give high school coaches the recognition they deserve, and provide schools financial assistance to maintain and upgrade their football programs. Over the last seventeen years, the Coach of the Week program has provided more than 170 grants totaling nearly $250,000 to area football programs.
