Mick Shots: A Helping Hand

Not exactly a victory Tuesday, but sorta, the Chargers doing the Cowboys a favor by defeating the Eagles, keeping the Cowboys playoff hopes alive with the guys reviewing the Monday night game. Some Shedeur Sanders talk, along with George Pickens, and giving him some advice.

The guys cover so many topics with so much football taking place from Thursday night in Detroit to all day Sunday, starting with Boots & Jeans, to the Eagles playing Monday night, the NFL standings and wildcard complications, to injuries, young guys like Nate Thomas and Shavon Revel and kickoff coverage problems.

Not a great Friday after the Cowboys 44-30 loss Thursday night to Detroit. Talk centers on defensive woes, especially the coverage Everson analyzes. Then kicking too many field goals, but no matter what the Cowboys hung in there, but never could get over the hump for various reasons discussed.

A good injury update for the Cowboys Thursday night game against the Detroit Lions, with Tuesday status of Jadeveon Clowney and Tyler Guyton, and finally Everson's thoughts on the Thanksgiving Day win over the Chiefs. Then pointing out this revamped defensive personnel, Clowney's impact, along with Picks and Picks to Click.

Celebrating the Cowboys two wins in five days, beating both Super Bowl participants from the 2024 season, bringing meaning to potentially winning the NFC East. Jimmy's philosophy on the after Thanksgiving stretch run. The Q Effect, a little history lesson and an improved overall defense.

First a nod to the history of these two teams, Cowboys and Chiefs, the former Dallas Texans, and some Turkey talk before diving into the matchup with the Chiefs, knowing controlling Patrick Mahomes is a must. Game specific talk ahead of Sunday's showdown with the Eagles, harkening back to the first meeting of the season and all the guys the Cowboys have either added since or playing for the first time with the team. The guys are putting a premium on running the football against the Eagles on Sunday, pointing out how running back Javonte Williams has more rushing yards and rushing touchdowns than the Eagles Saquan Barkley. Then pointing out how tough the Eagles defense has been on opposing quarterbacks this season.

Rightfully so there's been so much talk about the Cowboys beating the Raiders and honoring Marshawn Kneeland , it's time to move on to the Eagles, looking at how great they've been over the past several years. The duo helping the Cowboys to do some winnin' on the road finally, just their second road win in six games this season by beating the Raiders, WR George Pickens taking over the game with 144 yards receiving and Quinine Williams leading a defensive charge in his first game with the Cowboys. Basically, a new defense and a resurgent offense clickin'.

After a short stop on Texas high school football, it was on to examining the time off during the bye, the number of newcomers ready to play, just which defensive player benefits the most with the acquisition of Quinnen Williams, what happens at linebacker now and picks and picks to click for Monday night.

A slow transition between the death of Marshawn Kneeland and getting back to football, recapping, the Jerry and Stephen Jones radio segments, talk of how the newcomers and reinforcements can help the Cowboys, playoff possibilities and how this offensive line must improve.  Then a little Pickens talk and just how to get players refocused on football.

This is the guys first chance to address the passing of Cowboys defensive end Marshawn Kneeland and the ramifications of his teammates having to deal with this tragedy, along with pointing out how real mental illness can be. Then a look at where the Cowboys have emerged after the bye in the standings.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones promised trades, and trades he made, Cowboys acquiring just what the doctor ordered, a big, powerful defensive tackle in Quinnen Williams and linebacker Logan Wilson to shore up a run defense in need. The trades are for now and the future,. And a look at the NFC standings and where the Cowboys could fit in.

Almost ignoring the stinging loss to the Cardinals, the guys jumped right into trade talk, what the Cowboys already did and what they should do going forward, all prior to the Quinnen Williams trade going down. Then talk of the Cowboys faulty defense against the Cards, but emphasizing how the offense has been struggling.

So, there is a lot of talk today about if the Cowboys will or should make a trade by Tuesday's deadline and what position would be the priority to address, along with if trading for a rest of the season rental player or a guy to also help down the road. And a wild, wide range of picks and picks to click for Monday night's game against the Cardinals.

Time to move on from Sunday's loss to Denver, reviewing what defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus had to say about the defense, how Brian Schottenheimer has been interacting with the defense, updates on the injuried safeties and Trevon Diggs situation, and then a whole lot on the Arizona Cardinals.

Seems everyone has an idea of how to improve the Cowboys defense, and the guys today lend a helping hand with theirs, while pointing out how short-handed the Cowboys are at the safety position. Voting on this week's G.O.A.T., Everson's rookie season defensive end money.

This Cowboys defense needs a bunch of fixes, so looking at positions to potentially trade for by next week, needing the safety position to get healthy, with four of the five starters from last week dealing with injuries, needing the D-Line to step up and an optimistic look at the NFC East should the Cowboys start winning.
