Garrett, Cowboys Agree To Terms On 5-Year Contract; Marinelli, Linehan Close

IRVING, Texas-  In his press conference on Tuesday, Jason Garrett sounded like a guy prepared to coach the team for years to come.

And apparently, that's about to become official.

According to multiple reports both inside and outside of Valley Ranch, Garrett  and the Cowboys have agreed to terms on a five-year, $30 million contract to remain the head coach of America's Team. The official announcement could come as early as Wednesday morning.

The Cowboys' organization did announce Garrett and its coaching staff would be coaching one of the two Pro Bowl teams next week.

After finalizing the deal with Garrett, the Cowboys can turn their attention to both defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli and passing game coordinator Scott Linehan. Both coaches are expected to remain with the Cowboys as well. Marinelli, who was rumored to leave the club to join Tampa Bay, has also reportedly agreed to terms on a new deal.

Garrett, who made about $5 million per season last year, signed a four-year contract in 2011, which expired at the end of the season. But Garrett told reporters on Tuesday his intentions were to stay with the club.

"Oh absolutely I want to be here," Garrett said. "We're proud of the team that we've assembled, the staff we've assembled the players we've brought in here. I think we're building it the right way."

Garrett took over for Wade Phillips in the middle of the 2010 season and went 5-3 as the interim head coach. Once he was named head coach officially, Garrett's team went 8-8 for three straight years, missing the playoffs in the final week of the season all three years.

But after a 12-4 record in 2014 that saw the Cowboys win the NFC East and win a playoff game for the first time in five years, Garrett has the Cowboys' arrow pointing up.

"I like to think that we're building something. There's no question that you do start all over again," Garrett said. "But whatever the makeup of our team is going to be when we reassemble in the spring is going to be different than it is right now. The 2014 Dallas Cowboys are a unique entity. But I'd like to think that when we get together we're going to have these cornerstone pieces and we're going to have these experiences that we've had together that we can build on and we can benefit from."
