Academy Award Winner Denzel Washington Drops By Cowboys Practice

OXNARD, Calif. -- The Cowboys have a way of attracting high-profile supporters, and none bigger than their visitor on Saturday's training camp practice.

There aren't many people who could garner more attention than the likes of Tony Romo and Dez Bryant, but that was the case when acclaimed actor Denzel Washington and his son John David Washington dropped by for the Cowboys' afternoon practice.

Denzel has won Academy Awards for his performances in both Glory *and *Training Day, while John David is currently starring in the HBO show Ballers.

As it turns out, the elder Washington is a long-time fan of the team.

"First of all, I've been a Cowboy fan my whole life," Washington said. "I'm talking about Duane Thomas. I'm talking about Walt Garrison, Calvin Hill, Tony Dorsett. So I've been a fan for a long time. Just to be out here is just fun for me."

Washington and his son visited with Romo and Jason Witten in the team's weight room before practice, and Cowboys coach Jason Garrett invited him out to the field to address the team before the afternoon session.

There's no word on whether Washington's words were as inspiring as those of his character, Herman Boone, in the fan favorite football film *Remember The Titans. *The speech might have been a thrill for Cowboys players, but it was plenty exciting for Washington.

"I'm just happy I get to meet Tony Romo and them guys," he said. "This is a dream for me. I got to live out my dream through my son. Days like today are just fun days for me."

Washington was asked for a prediction on the Cowboys' upcoming season, but he chose to keep it simple.

"A lot of things can go right, a lot of things can go wrong," he said. "I just pray that they all stay healthy. I'm looking forward to being on the sideline for a playoff game. Let's hope that that happens."
