Mailbag: Will The Cowboys Add To The D-Line? Rotating Running Backs?

JARREL GIBSONWEST HAVEN, CT
With our third round pick going down with a broken foot and us being thin now on the D-Line with pass rushers and play makers, are we looking to sign anyone in the free agent DE market or are we going to sign anyone? I know our ship has sailed on Greg Hardy, but with all the injuries and suspensions, we need to start looking hard at signing a few guys!

Bryan: Talking with several members of the front office on Wednesday night, they are going to ride with the current players they have but would be ready to claim or sign the right guy if one became available before camp.

David:Jason Garrett and Rod Marinelli were both highly optimistic about the guys they've got on hand for the time being. There are a lot of questions on this defensive line, but there's a lot of confidence in this building that guys like Terrell McClain, Jack Crawford and David Irving can get the job done. I think they'll wind up adding veteran either right before or during training camp – ala George Selvie in 2013.

Do you think the coaching staff will rotate running backs this season seeing how successful 2014 was, but having much better talent this year at the running back position?

Bryan: I don't remember there being a rotation in 2014 – it was DeMarco Murray and that was it. If one of these backs steps up and proves it can handle the load then, I believe you will see Scott Linehan ride that guy. I do agree with you on the talent level of these backs, it is much better.

David: I think what you're asking is whether the coaches will rotate the running backs more, because DeMarco Murray received 78 percent of the carries in 2014. And I do believe that will happen, because the talent level is definitely higher. I think this is Ezekiel Elliott's show at the end of the day, but there should be more than enough carries to go around. My guess is that either Alfred Morris or Darren McFadden finishes with about 150 carries this year – which would be 100 more than Joseph Randle had in 2014.
