Cowboys Waive Fullback Rod Smith, Create Open Roster Spot

FRISCO, Texas – The Cowboys waived fullback Rod Smith on Thursday, creating an open spot on their 53-man roster.

Claimed off waivers from Seattle last October, Smith appeared in seven games this season after converting from running back to fullback. He played four offensive snaps and caught one pass for yards; he also tied for second on the team with four special teams tackles.

It's uncertain how the Cowboys plan to fill Smith's spot. They could look to address their secondary depth with cornerback Mo Claiborne (groin) and safety Barry Church (forearm) injured. Two cornerbacks, Leon McFadden and Sammy Seamster, are on the practice squad.
