Austin would've been unrestricted in a normal capped year.
think the NFL hasn't learned from lockouts in the NBA, MLB and NHL. Baseball took years to recover. Hockey hasn't yet.
In the meantime, assuming nothing is settled in the next week, teams must improve their rosters through altered means. Those who spend should do so wisely, knowing a revived cap in 2011 would cripple their flexibility.
So with fewer free-agent options, the draft has more importance than ever. The Cowboys are one of the lucky teams. Their core is intact - a credit to them for re-signing the Wares and the Romos before this CBA threshold - and they've already got a playoff roster, top to bottom.
That said, let the Combine begin.
