2026 NFL Draft Linebacker Prospects

Expect change here … and lots of it. The Cowboys’ leading tackler in 2025 was Kenneth Murray, but he’s a free agent and is not in the plans for this season. However, the team is hoping DeMarvion Overshown can have a full offseason of health and thrive in Parker’s new alignment. Interestingly enough, Overshown enters his fourth year in the NFL and has now seen four different defensive coordinators. Parker is expected to bring a 3-4 base defense, which will likely affect the linebackers as much as anyone. Marist Liufau and Shemar James will still be counted on to contribute, though as previously mentioned, Liufau has already been moved to outside linebacker, which could see him rushing from the edge more. But there are players in the upcoming draft, including as high as the first round, who would be great fits in Dallas. It’s been eight years since the Cowboys have taken a true linebacker in the first round (Leighton Vander Esch, 2018), but with two first-round selections, this could be the year that trend changes. And don’t be surprised if a linebacker, or two, is added to the group in free agency long before that. – Nick Eatman
