2026 NFL Draft Safety Prospects

This will be a new-look position for the Cowboys, who addressed it heavily in free agency. But they might not be done. After signing Jalen Thompson to a three-year, $33 million contract and then adding P.J. Locke to a one-year deal as well, the Cowboys also reworked Malik Hooker’s contract to keep him in the fold. Thompson reunites with former Cardinals coach Ryan Smith, who is the Cowboys’ new secondary coach. And Locke spent his first two years in Denver, where Parker was an assistant on the Broncos staff. With these moves, the Cowboys let Juanyeh Thomas leave for Tennessee and weren’t expected to bring back unrestricted free agent Donovan Wilson, as Dallas still has both Markquese Bell and Alijah Clark on the roster. A player such as Ohio State’s Caleb Downs would seemingly be a great for fit any team, although he’s not expected to be around when the Cowboys pick at No. 12. Still, it’s a deep class of safeties, so don’t be surprised if Dallas uses one of its first-round picks on the position, which hasn’t happened since they grabbed Roy Williams with the eighth overall selection in 2002. – Nick Eatman
