DENVER – On Saturday, the Cowboys officially placed Pro-Bowl CB Trevon Diggs on injured reserve, sidelining him for at least four games.

One day later, Cowboys COO/co-owner Stephen Jones said on Pregame Live that Diggs' injury was not one that is expected to be serious, and that Dallas plans to get Diggs back later this season.

"We look at it [as] more four games," Jones said. "The biggest thing with him was just getting him to where he can practice day in and day out. He's had two previous knee injuries that were significant, and they creep up on him during the week and bother him."

"We just felt between the concussion and the knees that we just needed to get him the opportunity to be 100%, and then I think he can really be helpful to us."

With the Cowboys' road game against Denver being the first game of his four that Diggs must miss while on injured reserve, the first game he'll be eligible to return for is on Thanksgiving when Dallas hosts the Kansas City Chiefs.

Diggs missed most of last season with a knee injury that he rehabbed all offseason and training camp.

The Cowboys will rely on cornerbacks DaRon Bland and Kaiir Elam as the starters, along with Trikwese Bridges, Caelen Carson and Reddy Stewart. This week, the Cowboys also elevated Corey Ballentine from the practice squad.

Obviously, the Diggs news is the latest in odd occurrences for the sixth-year cornerback, including being ruled out on the Friday leading up to Dallas' Week 7 home game against the Commanders with a concussion suffered in an accident at his home.

The Cowboys exercised a $500,000 clause in Diggs' contract this summer because he didn't rehab at the Cowboys facility. And then last week's concussion was suffered at a home incident in which details haven't been revealed.

When he's on the field, Diggs has been productive, earning two Pro Bowls including a magical 2021 season when he has 11 interceptions, tying a Cowboys single season record.
