Fitting In: Oglesby joins a cornerback position loaded with talent, with seven or eight cornerbacks on the roster fully capable of making the team. But with head coach Wade Phillips' willingness to keep no more than six corners, Oglesby is pushing hard not to be the odd man out. His main competition for the last corner spot appears to be Alan Ball who, as a former seventh round draft pick and a member of the 2007 squad, held the early edge in the competition until spraining his ankle.
So Far: Oglesby has had one of the best training camps of anyone to date, pulling down, by his count, six interceptions and breaking up numerous passes. With injuries to Newman and Ball, Oglesby has also taken some reps in the slot on the nickel and dime defenses. He normally works with the second or third team at cornerback.
Best Asset: His versatility. Oglesby can play both left and right cornerback and is learning to play in the slot as well. In addition to his solid coverage skills, Oglesby can also be a factor on a variety of special teams.
You Should Know: A few months after last season ended, Oglesby became a part owner of a huge piece of property adjacent to the Cowboys new stadium in Arlington, Texas. He plans to build a parking structure, two five-star hotels, commercial properties and condominiums on his newest purchase.
A Mouthful: "I'm just coming out here working hard, having fun and going to let the chips fall at the end."
