FRISCO, Texas - The Cowboys wrapped up their first training camp under Brian Schottenheimer on Wednesday at the Star in Frisco.
Some common names that kept popping up over the course of the last month once again flashed on Wednesday, appropriately closing several strong offseason with good performances.
The Cowboys offense provided a pair of highlights that stood out amongst the rest, with Joe Milton showing off his huge arm and CeeDee Lamb doing CeeDee Lamb things in the end zone.
More on those moments and others from the final training camp practice of the year:
Rocket Joe: Amidst all the struggles that Joe Milton has had through the first two weeks of the preseason, one thing remains true with Milton: His arm talent is superb. He showed it off on Wednesday's practice when rolling out left and launching a 60-yard touchdown to Jalen Brooks, who was draped in coverage. Milton has shown he can hit on the big plays, now he just needs to grow in the short to intermediate game. (- Tommy Yarrish)
Something to Cee: One of the best catches of all of training camp occurred near the very end of practice when CeeDee Lamb hauled in an amazing one-handed grab in the back corner of the end zone for a goal-line score. Not only was it a thing of beauty as Lamb never even bobbled Dak Prescott's pass, plucking it out of the air, but it also showed what kind of 1-2 punch the Cowboys have at receiver this year. The play started with George Pickens on the outside and Lamb in the slot – lined up on the same side. The two crossed each other, forcing the defenders to make a decision and it left Lamb in single coverage, which was easily beaten for the score.-(Nick Eatman)
Elam shines again: It was only appropriate that Kaiir Elam ended his first training camp with the Cowboys on a high note. Elam, who was acquired via trade with the Buffalo Bills earlier in the offseason, was a cornerback that Dallas was high on in the draft but didn't get back in 2022. He showed them why they were high on him in the process with a strong offseason, capping it off Wednesday with a pair of PBUs, including one on a goal line fade to George Pickens, and an interception on a free play. Now, the Cowboys hope his strong play carries over into the regular season. (- Tommy Yarrish)
Holden making his case: In a seemingly neck-and-neck battle for a spot on the 53-man roster at wide receiver, rookie Traeshon Holden will not let up. He had another strong practice on Wednesday, hauling in a few contested catches and making himself available in the middle of the field. Holden got the lowest amount of guaranteed money in his UDFA contract with the Cowboys, but has continued to make plays both in Oxnard and again in Frisco. (- Tommy Yarrish)
Putting on some LBs: Linebackers have been active throughout camp, whether it's in Oxnard or Frisco, day or night. And that didn't change Wednesday night as the inside backers were all over the field. Most notably, newly-acquired Jack Sanborn continues to shine, showing that he has a firm grasp of Matt Eberflus' defense that he played in last year with the Bears. Sanborn stuffed out more than one running play in the team drills, seemingly living in the offensive backfield. He wasn't alone as Damone Clark also had another stellar night, recording a couple of tackles for loss and a pass breakup in pass coverage. With the combination of Sanborn, Kenneth Murray, Marist Liufau, Shemar James and Clark, the linebacker group seems to be in good shape, even with DeMarvion Overshown still rehabbing his knee injury.(- Nick Eatman)
