The Dallas Cowboys bolstered their defensive backfield when they selected Trevon Diggs - one of the top cornerbacks and one of the best all-around athletes - in the second round (51st overall) of the 2020 NFL Draft. Diggs, who started his collegiate career as a receiver at Alabama, made the switch to defense as a sophomore and continued to improve each season. As a rookie in Dallas, Diggs started 11 of the 12 games he played, missing four in the middle of the season with a broken foot. Diggs finished his rookie season as the first Cowboys rookie to lead the team outright in interceptions (three) since Terence Newman in 2003, the first rookie to lead the team in breakups (14) since Byron Jones in 2015 and the first to lead in both categories since 1984 when Dallas started tracking breakups. Diggs had a breakout year in his second season, leading the NFL and tying a franchise record with 11 interceptions - returning two for touchdowns - making him the first Cowboy to lead the NFL in picks since Everson Walls in 1981. Diggs was named a Pro Bowl starter and earned first-team All-Pro honors for his efforts. Starting all 16 games he played, primarily shadowing the top opposing receivers, Diggs also led the defense with 21 breakups and finished seventh with 56 tackles - tying his total from his rookie season. Diggs grew into a complete cover corner as a third-year player, often shadowing the opponent's best receiver while recording three interceptions, 14 pass breakups and registered a forced incompletion percentage of 12.1%, per PFF, on his way to his second straight Pro Bowl.
