OXNARD, Calif. – After an offseason of looking for a wide receiver to pair with All-Pro CeeDee Lamb, the Cowboys traded for George Pickens in the hopes that he would take Dallas' offense to the next level in the passing game.

Whether or not Pickens can do that? Nobody will know for sure until the season starts. But so far, he and Lamb have built a close relationship that is evident every day they're around one another.

"He's just an incredible athlete, incredible football player, and his ability to go up and get the ball, you guys haven't seen it yet, but those days are literally coming," Lamb said. "He's like a caged animal, and so am I."

Ever since Pickens first hit the practice field with Lamb back in Frisco, the two have been inseparable. Early on, Lamb was giving Pickens pointers on the offense, and still is, but the two are now starting to feel more comfortable working off of one another and have set a high bar for their pairing.

"It's just the type of receiver that we both are and that we see in each other and the expected greatness that we see in each other," Lamb said. "As for GP man, I want him to get everything that he's deserving in his career."

Over the course of Pickens' early career, there's been narratives surrounding him as an issue in the locker room, on the field, etc. Lamb and the rest of the Cowboys team hasn't seen any of that, and if anything, they've seen the opposite.

The Dallas Cowboys take the field in Oxnard, Cali.

"There's a narrative wrapped around him which I haven't seen yet," Lamb said. "As for me, I know it's my job to make sure he's trending that line of perfection that we need. He has all the intangibles, he's a great receiver, he's a great person, he's everything that the people say he isn't."

So what is it that people are getting wrong about Pickens from the outside?

"That he's not as crazy as he seems to be, literally…" Lamb said. "If you talk to this man and have a decent conversation, I guarantee you you'll understand that this man's got heart. When we get on the field, it's a different beast. I expect him to be an animal, but we have an on and off."

Pickens is heading into the final year of his rookie deal before becoming an unrestricted free agent next offseason. His first year with the Cowboys is a "prove it" year, and the future is uncertain. That said, Lamb already knows that he wants to play alongside Pickens for the foreseeable future.

"I'm glad he's here, he knows I love him the most," Lamb said. "I tell him every day, I'm happy for him, hope we go together for X amount of years."

Pickens isn't the only wide receiver that Lamb has gotten tight with. He takes pride in being close with the wide receiver room as a whole and wants to build a lasting legacy with his teammates and be a mentor that players like Amari Cooper were for him early in his career.

"I want to be that guy for these guys. I want to see these guys perform and be excellent, be great, be remembered in this league because I mean it don't last long…" Lamb said. "So let's make the most of it and let's make all these memories together and then we can look back on these maybe 20 years later and be like 'Dang, we had a great run.'"

There's no one more confident in what he and his teammates can do as a whole in 2025, and made clear where he thinks they rank amongst the other wide receiver rooms in the league.

"I like us versus anybody, honestly," Lamb said. "Versus anyone. Any room. I don't care what they be saying in the media. I see it, I ignore it. We'll see ya'll in September. I don't really do too much talking."
