Gut Feeling: Staff predictions for Cowboys-Packers

FRISCO, Texas -- A week after both teams suffered tough losses on the road, the Cowboys and Packers meet at a crucial, early point in the season with Dallas looking to get back to .500 and Green Bay looking to avoid getting there and improving to 3-1.

The Packers have never lost a game in AT&T Stadium, and after trading for Cowboys All-Pro Micah Parsons, they'll look to keep that streak alive. Standing in their way is Dak Prescott and the Cowboys' offense, which has the fourth-most yards per game in the NFL, but is without two starting linemen and CeeDee Lamb.

Here's what our staff predicts will happen on Sunday night at AT&T Stadium:

Nick Eatman: I don't claim to be right about a lot of things. I tend to sit on the fence a little too much and as we all know … that hurts. But one thing I'm really sure about, once Mr. Parsons gets shown on the video board Sunday night, there will be a chorus of boos that won't shock anyone, except for maybe, Micah. I do know that. Let's not forget the last image we have of him at AT&T Stadium is him laying on the table. If that's not something that will irk the true Cowboys fans, nothing else will. As for the actual game, I think Parsons is going to be a huge problem for this O-line. So much so, that we'll probably see another Packers defender that you've never heard of that will have a monster game just because of the opportunities. I want to say "this is a weird league" and "anything can happen." I do believe all of that but I also think the Packers have just been a better team than the Cowboys for several years and it's very much so the case right now. I've got the Cowboys trying to hang in there for a while but ultimately, Green Bay will prevail 28-15.

Patrik Walker: This is the perfect storm of danger aimed at the Cowboys, so how shall I begin to paint the picture of horror here. Let's begin with the fact the defense has gone from nearly shutting down the Eagles to two consecutive jaw-droppingly bad performances with no clear-cut sign of turnaround in sight (though I am EAGER to see if Schottenheimer keeps to his word of shaking up some things with the scheme and personnel this week), and Jordan Love is starved to use Dallas as a bounceback game after losing to the Browns [defense], versus one of the statistically-worse covering secondaries in the league right now and at the very scene of a particular, fateful January crime.

Now, add in the loss of both CeeDee Lamb and Tyler Booker to injury that will keep them sidelined for the near future, meaning the Cowboys have an issue at WR2, again, and the interior offensive line now features two backups — capable, but still backups — going against Micah Parsons and a Packers defensive front that takes no prisoners. I believe the addition of Jadeveon Clowney and the readdition of DaRon Bland will help in a big way, but that feels like holding up an umbrella in a category 5 hurricane. Prove this prediction wrong, please. 38-20, Packers

Tommy Yarrish: I'm going to steal a line that my good friends Patrik Walker and Josh Rodriguez use quite a bit to describe this matchup for the Cowboys: "Not great, Bob!" Let's start with the fact that the Cowboys' defense has not looked like the version of themselves that was promising in Week 1 against the Philadelphia Eagles. Green Bay's offense has been inconsistent, but Jordan Love had Dallas' number in that shocking 2023 playoff game and the Packers have plenty of weapons that can make plays, including Josh Jacobs out of the backfield.

And that all gets to before their defense, which has given up the least amount of points per game this season and was super charged with the addition of Micah Parsons via trade from the Cowboys. That unit is firing on all cylinders and with the Cowboys set to be down CeeDee Lamb, Tyler Booker and Cooper Beebe on Sunday night, it does not appear to be a setting where they would show any signs of slowing down. It may be another long night. Packers 35, Cowboys 10

Kyle Youmans: After watching the film entering Week 3, Dallas should've been the better team against the Bears, but the red flags were there. The lack of pass rush and a spotty secondary were both apparent, but I believed Dallas could cover that up as the better team against Chicago. This week, the red flags are there on both sides.

Green Bay has the best defense statistically in the country and the best deep-ball thrower in the NFL since 2023 in Jordan Love. Against a banged-up Cowboys offense and the worst-deep ball defense in the Next Gen Stats era (not a hyperbole, look it up). However, I do believe Dallas is going to fight their tails off in front of the home crowd and play a much better brand of football than they have the last two weeks. In a game like Week 1 against Philly, Green Bay will outlast a furious Dallas effort to win, 27-24 Packers.

Mickey Spagnola: Had this all planned out, going to pick the Packers to beat the Cowboys 27-23, just thinking the Cowboys without CeeDee Lamb, Cooper Beebe and Tyler Booker would be too much for the Cowboys to overcome against a good Packers team. Plus, having to deal with Micah's return. But then when Hall of Famer Roger Staubach walked into The Star and stopped down Shottenheimer's press conference, took that as an ecclesiastic sign, reversing my pick into a Cowboys win by the same score. "This is my favorite coach, Roger said, meeting Schottenheimer for the first time. Pretty scientific, eh. But crazier things have happened in this NFL. And the Packers have their share of injury issues on the offensive line, too.
