FRISCO, Texas -- With four weeks of the 2025 NFL season in the books, all 32 teams are dealing with and trying to balance their injury situations.
The Cowboys are no different, with some players nearing returns to injuries and the team dealing with some new ones over the course of their first four games.
Let's take a look at the 17 players that are currently dealing with injuries for the Cowboys and the latest on where they stand:
Tyler Smith (knee) - After playing all 67 offensive snaps against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday night, Smith popped up on Wednesday's injury report with a knee injury and was not present during the media's viewing of practice. There's still not a lot of information on what sort of injury Smith is dealing with and whether or not he'll be able to play on Sunday against the Jets, but the Cowboys are already set to be down two starters in Cooper Beebe and Tyler Booker, and it could jump to five if Smith and Tyler Guyton, who is in concussion protocol, can't play.
KaVontae Turpin (foot) - Turpin suffered a foot injury following the Cowboys' Week 4 game against the Packers, and was not at practice on Wednesday. His status for Week 5 is in question, but the team doesn't believe the injury is of a nature that would land him on injured reserve. It's the second injury Turpin has dealt with this season after overcoming a neck injury going into Week 3.
Kenneth Murray (knee) - During the media's viewing of practice on Wednesday, Murray was present and participating in warmups and some position group drills, but came up on the practice report as limited. It could just be used as a veteran/rest day of sorts for Murray, who played the second-most snaps (75) on defense for Dallas last Sunday.
Tyler Guyton (concussion) - Already down two starters on the offensive line, the Cowboys are hoping to avoid losing a third as Guyton awaits clearance from the league's concussion protocol after suffering one in Week 4 against the Packers, following a great showing against Micah Parsons. If Guyton is required to miss any time, it will be Nate Thomas getting the nod at left tackle.
Malik Hooker (toe) - The veteran safety exited the matchup against the Packers with a toe injury that was aggravated in coverage, and did not return to the contest. Hooker himself states it could be a "couple weeks" before he's ready to return, a prediction echoed by Brian Schottenheimer this week, as the former nurses a toe injury he says has been nagging him all season.
Tyler Booker (ankle) - Dallas' rookie first-round pick was able to play the entire Week 3 game against the Chicago Bears, but news came out following the game that he had suffered a high ankle sprain. Booker was seen in a protective walking boot at AT&T Stadium on Sunday night, but did not have it on Monday during the Cowboys' locker room media availability. The team is still weighing whether or not Booker's injury is enough to place him on injured reserve, which would sideline him until Week 9 against the Cardinals if done this week, but as of Monday have no plans to do so.
CeeDee Lamb (ankle) - On his first touch of the game against Chicago, Lamb was tackled as a running back out of the backfield and came down awkwardly, suffering a high ankle sprain. After the game, Lamb said he felt he "absolutely" could play through the injury, but was held out of the game as a precaution. Lamb's injury is not thought to be as serious, and similar to Booker, the Cowboys currently don't have any plans to place him on injured reserve. Lamb was in a protective boot for Sunday's game against Green Bay. It's still early to tell but signs point to Lamb likely missing Dallas' Week 5 game against the Jets.
Caelen Carson (knee) - The second-year cornerback out of Wake Forest hyperextended his knee during the early parts of Cowboys' training camp, with the initial timeline for his recovery expected to be around four to six weeks. Carson started the year on IR, where he also spent some time his rookie season, and has been seen with the rehab group during the media's viewing of practice the last few weeks. With Week 4 in the rear view mirror, Carson returned to practice on Wednesday as his 21-day practice window opened.
Jonathan Mingo (knee) - In his first training camp with the Cowboys after being traded to the team midseason in 2024, Jonathan Mingo suffered a PCL injury in Dallas' second preseason game against the Ravens. He was placed on injured reserve to start the season, and also has been with the rehab group for the last few weeks, although he recently was doing work on the cords in cleats and not sneakers, a sign that a return could be close. Mingo had his 21-day practice window opened ahead of Dallas' Week 5 game against the New York Jets.
Miles Sanders (ankle/knee) – The veteran back has been rotating behind the starter Javonte Williams through the first four games. Sanders suffered the ankle injury in the second half against the Packers and did not return. It sounds like he should be fine, but it could be the reason he is limited in practice and could even sit this week, considering the Cowboys are looking to get rookie Jaydon Blue some opportunities to play.
Cooper Beebe (ankle/foot) - Second-year center Cooper Beebe was placed on injured reserve heading into Week 3 against the Chicago Bears after leaving the Cowboys' win over the Giants with an ankle and foot injury. The expected timeline on Beebe was about 6-8 weeks, with COO/co-owner Stephen Jones hoping it's on "the shorter end" of that timeline. In his place, Brock Hoffman has taken over the snapping duties in Dallas' last two games where he's allowed six QB pressures and no sacks.
DeMarvion Overshown (knee) - The budding superstar linebacker suffered his second devastating knee injury in 2024, but is on the mend and aiming toward retaking the field at some point in 2025. He still has a little ways to go in his rehab, but he's been seen going through drills wearing a helmet for the first time since suffering the injury in December; and he'll soon rejoin a linebackers' corps that is struggling to find its groove.
Shavon Revel (knee) - The torn ACL suffered by Revel occurred in September 2024, during his final season at East Carolina, requiring the Cowboys to place him on NFI (non-football injury) to begin this season. As the rookie third-round pick approaches Week 5 of his first year with the Cowboys, he's in line to potentially see his 21-day practice window activated as Dallas continues to search for consistent solutions in their secondary.
Phil Mafah (shoulder) - The rookie running back had a very strong training camp and preseason before suffering a shoulder injury that led him to be placed on injured reserve during final cutdowns, sidelining him for a minimum of four weeks. Like Revel, he is now eligible to have his 21-day practice window activated as early as Week 5, and could provide insurance in the event Miles Sanders' ankle issue becomes problematic.
Josh Butler (ACL) – The cornerback had a knee injury late last season and has spent the entire offseason rehabbing. The Cowboys put him on PUP at the start of camp and is now eligible to start practicing, assuming the team opens his 21-day window.
Payton Turner (Ribs) – The former first-round pick who was signed in the offseason to add depth and experience to the D-line rotation, suffered a ribs injury in late-August and went to IR. He is eligible to return this week, or at least have his 21-day window opened so he can return to practice.
Perrion Winfrey (back) – The Cowboys placed him on IR on Sept. 8, meaning he still has one game remaining before he is eligible to return. Winfrey was on the 53-man roster for the Week 1 loss to the Eagles but was inactive with the initial injury. When he returns, the Cowboys will have some decisions to make at the backup tackle spot between him, Jay Toia and Mazi Smith – all of which are behind the starters Kenny Clark, Osa Odighizuwa and Solomon Thomas.
