Jerry Jones says more possible Cowboys' trades are 'in the works' before deadline

FRISCO, Texas – On Tuesday morning, the Cowboys agreed to terms on a trade with the Cincinnati Bengals to send a 2026 seventh-round pick in exchange for LB Logan Wilson.

As owner and general manager Jerry Jones hinted at on Monday night, Dallas may not be done in the trade market with the NFL's trade deadline at 3 PM central time just hours away.

"They're in the works," Jones said on 105.3 The Fan when asked about the potential for more moves on Tuesday. "Obviously with a three o'clock deadline, four o'clock New York, they're in the works and they better be in the works or you're going to miss this train."

Jones and the Cowboys view the Wilson trade as one that not only helps them in the present, but also in the future as he has two more years beyond 2025 on his current contract. Jones also added that Wilson, 29, reminds him a bit of former Cowboys linebacker Leighton Vander Esch.

"Some guys have the ability to see a certain key and at the same time take a step up in the hole. [Wilson] knows how to get in the gaps right now…" Jones said. "He can come in immediately and help us at linebacker."

While Jones did not dive into additional details on who or where some of the other trades that are in the works could come from, it appears that Jones and the Cowboys have a reasonable criteria for what they're looking for: A player that can help Dallas both right now and in the future.

"If there's any business to be done relative to trading [for] a new player, I feel exactly the same way. There's some things, a thing for instance, that we could do that would not only help today, but help the future." Jones said.

This has been a quickly moving process for Jones and the Cowboys' front office, which has been "fast and furious" since last night. In all of their conversations about transactions, Jones has taken a step back and looked at the bigger picture both for himself and the franchise going forward.

"I don't have time, personally, to have a bad time. It's not on my schedule. I have a natural urgency because of my age. And so my tomorrows, the immediate tomorrow, are a big thing to me," Jones said.

"On the other hand, one of the reasons that we made the decision with our big trade before the year started is because I didn't want to saddle the club with that kind of financial responsibility… I'm into now, but I'll also have enough discipline not to get in trouble for years to come."

In being into now, Jones also knows that with a 3-5-1 record and a difficult stretch coming after the bye week, the Cowboys will need a lot to go right the rest of the way this season.

"One that they'll write a book about if we can do it…" Jones said when asked what kind of run Dallas would need after the bye to compete. "It will take a very impressive turnaround."
