| Altmyer has some serious zip on his passes, and he throws a nice deep ball. His pocket presence stood out on film and during Senior Bowl week, too, as he never seems to get rattled. Good understanding of the playbook and natural leverage with routes. | “Undersized gun-slinger” is the best way to describe him. And what other smaller quarterbacks have in speed, his is limited. Ball placement struggles at times, and he has a tendency to flutter the deep ball. |
OVERVIEW: Growing up in Starkville, Mississippi, Altmyer was raised around the game with his dad being the orthopedic surgeon for Mississippi State. Instead of committing to the Bulldogs, though, he elected to join the other side of the Egg Bowl by signing and spending two seasons with Ole Miss. After redshirting his second year in 2022, he transferred to Illinois where he became the program's career leader in completion percentage and put together back-to-back 20-touchdown seasons.
