| Versatile chess piece in the secondary who can play as a box safety, nickel corner or both at a very high level. With a strong football IQ, he diagnoses plays immediately and is a physical tone-setter at the point of attack. | Can sometimes over pursue in the backfield and in the run game, getting caught up. Some physical limitations may make him a target against taller, bigger players. Finishing tackles can improve. |
OVERVIEW: He doesn't play a "premium" position, but Downs is one of the best talents in the class because of the many different hats he can wear within a defense, and at a high level at that. Whether it's in the box, at nickel or closer to the line of scrimmage, Downs is a difference-maker whose smarts separate him from the rest. He immediately got on the field under Nick Saban at Alabama and was one of the most crucial pieces to Ohio State's defense the last two seasons. Has the potential to completely change an NFL secondary for the better.
