| He’s a smart, quarterback-friendly player who can find his spots in zone coverage and sit in them to make himself available. Royer also has strong hands that can haul receptions in through traffic, and he’s solid as a blocker with room to grow. | Limited in his ability to make plays down the field. Struggles to hold up at times in his lower body against powerful defenders on the line. Physical but not necessarily speedy when working after the catch. |
OVERVIEW: With some work to do on his route running and blocking ability, Royer very well could have his best days in front of him. He has a good base for teams to start with, though, including the ability to reel in catches through heavy traffic. He can also find spots in the short to intermediate game, giving his quarterback a safety blanket if need be. Not a burner with speed, especially after the catch, but uses physicality to pick up the extra yard or two by lowering his shoulder and getting what he can.
