Training Camp Notes: Safety Talks Ongoing

SAN ANTONIO -While signed free agents will be eligible to practice with the Cowboys and other teams beginning on Thursday, the team is not quite done looking for veterans.

Stephen Jones said the front office has an open dialogue with the representatives for Abram Elam and other free agent safeties. The Cowboys are content to continue waiting for the price to come down before adding anyone.

One safety the Cowboys were keeping an eye on, Brodney Pool, signed with the Jets on Wednesday.

  • Guard Montrae Holland limped off the practice field following a field goal try and was attended to by trainers, but returned to finish the workout.
  • Rookie kicker Dan Bailey again got the better of incumbent David Buehler. Bailey made each of his field goal tries, while Buehler was 3-of-5.
  • The offense and defense worked against each other in the red zone during 11-on-11 drills. The defense struggled in that area in 2010, finishing 29th in red zone scoring percentage.
  • Alex Barron, who served as the Cowboys' swing tackle last season, was signed by New Orleans on Wednesday.
