Wednesday Notebook

!The starters won't play more than about 8-10 plays in Sunday's game against the Bengals.

  • Phillips said there are a handful of players who likely won't play against the Bengals Sunday, including safety Akwasi Owusu-Ansah, who just returned to practice Wednesday. Also, guard Montrae Holland (hamstring), Pat Watkins (knee), Sean Lissemore (groin) and linebacker Stephen Hodge (knee) likely won't play. And, of course, wide receiver Dez Bryant, who remains in a walking boot with a high-ankle sprain. * Quarterback Jon Kitna had to miss a few plays after banging his right hand while taking a snap during team drills. Stephen McGee took over for a while before Kitna returned. At the time Phillips addressed the media after practice, he said he wasn't aware of any lingering effects and didn't think it was serious. * Linebacker Anthony Spencer was stepped on at the end of practice Tuesday and didn't go through team drills on Wednesday, paving the way for second-year pro Victor Butler. * Running back Tashard Choice only had 15 catches last season, but looks to have improved that part of his game. He caught several passes out of the backfield, including a diving catch down the field where he beat Keith Brooking in coverage.
