Witten Checks In On League's Top 100 List

A couple weeks back, Tony Romo popped up at No. 91 on the NFL Network's Top 100 Players of 2012 list, dropping considerably from his 2011 ranking.

His favorite pass-catcher has taken an even bigger fall. Jason Witten, who was ranked as the 36th-best player in the league last year, slipped to No. 75 in Wednesday's installment of the summer countdown.

Witten led the Cowboys in both catches and yards in 2011, with 79 grabs for 942 yards, with five touchdowns.

Coming in at No. 75 a year ago was another Cowboy, nose tackle Jay Ratliff.

Witten was introduced by teammate Miles Austin, along with Bills linebacker Nick Barnett and Chiefs tight end Kevin Boss.

Voted on by the players themselbves, the list is nothing if not controversial. Ranking one spot ahead of Witten (and 17 ahead of Romo) was Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco, he of the 80.9 passer rating in 2011.
