HONOLULU – The one position that seemed to be a true battle in training camp had a leading candidate heading into Saturday's game with the Rams.

But even despite the Cowboys' attempt to even the score, it didn't work. In fact, Cooper Rush extended his lead in the battle for the No. 2 quarterback.

The Cowboys gave Mike White the second-team reps and it occurred early in the game. Dak Prescott led the first unit 97 yards for a touchdown, but was pulled afterwards along with the rest of the starters.

"We wanted to flip it around this week," head coach Jason Garrett said. "They both had a good week of practice. It wasn't like we gave it to Mike, he earned that opportunity."

White entered the game but didn't have much success. The closest he got to leading the offense to a score occurred in the second quarter after the Cowboys recovered a fumble near midfield.

The Cowboys had a 52-yard attempt by Brett Maher, who hooked the kick to the left no good.

White got a series in the third quarter but was picked off down the sideline in what proved to be his final pass of the evening. He ended the game completing 7 of 13 passes for 30 yards and a 27.4 rating.

Rush entered the game and on his second series, led the offense down the field, thanks to a few penalties by the Rams. Rush finished the drive with an 8-yard touchdown pass to Devin Smith, giving the Cowboys a 14-10 lead.

Overall, Rush was 10 of 16 for 83 yards and a 96.6 rating.

"Mike last week did some good things and there were things he's going to learn from" Garrett said. "I thought Coop was comfortable in his time. He did a good job on the touchdown drive. I thought he handled himself well and he's a little more experienced than mike is right now and i think you're seeing that."

The Cowboys kick off the regular season against the New York Giants on Sept. 8th. Tickets starting at $35. Get your tickets to see your Cowboys at AT&T Stadium this season!
