IRVING, Texas -- The Cowboys announced they have released rookie free agent tight end George Bryan from their 90-man training camp roster and replaced him with tight end John Nalbone, claimed off waivers from the Seahawks.
Nalbone was originally drafted in the fifth round (161st overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins out of Monmouth. He has played in two career games, both in 2010 with Miami, and has not recorded any stats. He also has been on the Dolphins', Vikings', Broncos' and Seahawks' practice squads and has gone to training camp with the Eagles and Bengals.
The Cowboys have been looking for depth behind long-time starter Jason Witten since No. 2 tight end Martellus Bennett signed with the Giants. Fourth-year veteran John Phillips, now nearly two years removed from ACL surgery, is currently the primary backup. The club also drafted James Hanna in the sixth round.
