Mailbag: Day 3 Draft Pick To Make The Team?

Our first three picks will compete and likely start this season. The next three should make the team and contribute. Which of the last three make the team and  why?

Bryan: Chris Covington plays a position where they have a history of depth problems. He'll make the 53 as a backup linebacker with the potential to be a core special teamer, as well. He's a big guy that can run and finish. I expect him to show up well in training camp and the preseason games.

David: I don't think it's a lock by any stretch of the imagination, but I think Bo Scarbrough will wind up making the 53-man roster as the third running back. His size and natural ability make him awfully enticing as a backup option. He needs to figure out how to contribute on special teams, and he'll have to outperform Darius Jackson in the preseason. But I like his chances.

Are NFL players allowed in the team facility during this month off they have before training camp, or is it against the CBA? Seems like it would be a good way to stave off temptation due to idleness.

Bryan: Golf and fishing are two other things as well. Yes, players are allowed to be around and a number of them take advantage of the facility to maintain their conditioning.

David: Considering how many players live in the Dallas area year-round, you might be surprised at how many guys are around the facility right now. Whether they're working out, grabbing meals or just passing the time, there are plenty of guys hanging out here during the summer.
