The answers for the Cowboys-Cardinals trivia questions leading up to Monday's Week 8 game.

1) Which wide receiver set the Cowboys record for most receiving yards in a game on Oct. 11, 2009, against the Chiefs?
Miles Austin certainly had a day to remember as he hauled in 10 passes for 250 receiving yards, breaking a team record that had stood for 43 years. His effort also included two touchdowns, a 59-yard score in the fourth quarter and then a 60-yarder in overtime that gave Dallas a 26-20 victory.

2) The Chiefs franchise got its start in 1960 as the AFL's Dallas Texans. What year did they move to Kansas City?
After three seasons of the two teams competing in Dallas, Texans owner Lamar Hunt and Clint Murchison Jr., owner of the NFL's Cowboys, realized that both couldn't survive in the city. As legend has it, the two decided to flip a coin to determine who would pack their bags with Murchison having supposedly joked, "The winner gets to leave town." In truth, despite the Texans having the better team and even winning the AFL championship in 1962 (pictured), Hunt made the decision to head to Kansas City in 1963, knowing the upstart AFL would continue to struggle against the star-power of the NFL.

3) This current NFL head coach scored the game-winning touchdown for Dallas in a 31-28 victory over Kansas City on Dec. 11, 2005.
Current Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell was a tight end for the Cowboys from 2003-05, and the hero in this come-from-behind thriller. Down by four with 3:50 left in the game, the Cowboys drove 67 yards in 12 plays to the 1-yard line before Campbell then sealed the victory with just 22 seconds remaining. Primarily a blocking tight end, the score was his only catch of the game and just the second of two touchdowns he recorded during his time in Dallas.

4) In a game against the Chiefs on Nov. 10, 1975, the Cowboys tied a team record for forced fumbles. How many did they have?
This was a wild, hard-hitting affair as Dallas' Doomsday Defense forced a whopping seven fumbles during the Monday night showdown. The problem was, they only recovered three of them, and even worse, Kansas City forced five fumbles of their own and recovered every one, which is still a Cowboys record for fumbles lost. The back-and-forth battle saw Dallas go into the fourth quarter with a four-point lead, but the Chiefs scored late to steal the win, 34-31.

5) On Oct. 25, 1970, the Cowboys played Kansas City for the first time. Which running back led Dallas to a 27-16 victory with a career-high 134 rushing yards?
In just his second career start, Duane Thomas averaged 6.7 yards per carry and also reached the end zone twice against the Chiefs for his first multi-touchdown game. Wideout Bob Hayes provided the team's only other score on an 89-yard touchdown toss from Craig Morton, which is still the seventh longest pass play in franchise history.

6) Who returned a kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown against the Chiefs on Oct. 22, 1989?
There weren't many highlight moments during that 1989 season, the first in the Jerry Jones/Jimmy Johnson era, but James Dixon provided one with a kickoff return that is tied for the 10th-longest in team record books. Unfortunately, his effort wasn't enough as Dallas eventually lost the game, 36-28. Dixon, though, would go on to lead the NFL in both kickoff return attempts (47) and yards (1,181) that season.

7) Following four seasons with the Chiefs, this cornerback came to the Cowboys in 2012 after signing one of the biggest free-agent deals in franchise history.
The Cowboys inked Brandon Carr to a five-year, $50 million deal in 2012, which is really the last big contract the team has given to an outside free agent. Unfortunately, some would say he was playing in a defensive system that didn't really suit him and thus struggled to live up to the contract. However, Carr started every game during those five seasons and recorded seven interceptions, including returning two for touchdowns, while also posting 44 pass breakups. He would go on to play three seasons in Baltimore before wrapping up his 13-year NFL career with a three-game stint back in Dallas during the 2020 campaign.

8) Who owns the Cowboys record for most career touchdown catches on Thanksgiving?
Michael Irvin holds the honor with six touchdowns in 10 games played on the holiday. That included a 33-yard scoring grab during a 24-12 win over Kansas City in 1995, the only time the two teams have met on Thanksgiving prior to this year. Tony Hill, Mike Renfro and Jason Witten are all tied for second with four career touchdown catches on Turkey Day with Renfro having the record for most touchdowns in a single Thanksgiving game. He totaled three, a personal best, in a 44-38 overtime loss to the Vikings on Nov. 26, 1987.

9) Who was the Cowboys' opponent in their very first Thanksgiving game, which took place on Nov. 24, 1966?
The Cowboys' opponent that day was the Cleveland Browns, one of the top teams in the NFL and a rival of Dallas at the time. Many NFL owners, though, had no interest in playing on Thanksgiving back then, fearing that fans wouldn't come out for a holiday game during the week. However, Cowboys president Tex Schramm knew better and agreed to host the event. And he was proven right as 80,259 fans filled the Cotton Bowl to watch Don Perkins (pictured) rush for 111 yards in leading Dallas to a 26-14 victory, a team attendance record that stood until AT&T Stadium opened in 2009.

10) Which Cowboys cornerback returned an interception 63 yards for a touchdown in a blowout win over Washington on Thanksgiving Day 2023, setting an NFL record in the process?
Although the game was already well in hand, DaRon Bland put an exclamation point on the day when he stepped in front of a Sam Howell pass late in the fourth quarter and raced to the end zone to wrap up the scoring on a 45-10 victory. The pick six was his fifth of the year, which set an NFL record for the most interceptions returned for a touchdown in one season. Bland's nine interceptions overall for the 2023 campaign led the league and tied for fourth in franchise history.
![*11) Heading into the 1994 Thanksgiving Day win over the Packers that saw third-string quarterback Jason Garrett throw for a career-high 311 yards and two touchdowns, who gave him the best advice? *
After Garrett helped the Cowboys to a 42-31 victory, he told the media in the locker room, "My wife [Britt] said, 'I don't give you football advice very much, but when you're in there, throw it high to Alvin.' I tried to do that all day. … I was just kind of throwing it up there, and Alvin and Mike were going to get the ball." Sure enough, throwing deep, Garrett connected with Alvin Harper three times for 91 yards and a touchdown and found Michael Irvin with three more passes for 64 yards and a score. Running back Emmitt Smith did the rest, racking up 228 yards from scrimmage with two touchdowns of his own.

12) Who was the first artist to perform during the Cowboys' Red Kettle Kickoff halftime show?
The brainchild of co-owner and chief brand officer Charlotte Jones, the Red Kettle Kickoff was started to help raise awareness for The Salvation Army's annual fundraising drive. The first of these halftime extravaganza's was held in 1997 with Country Music Hall of Fame legend Reba McEntire taking center stage. Since then, performers from across the musical spectrum have entertained Thanksgiving audiences, including Dolly Parton, the Jonas Brothers, Kenny Chesney, Pitbull, Kelly Clarkson and coming this season, Post Malone.

13) In the infamous snow game played in Texas Stadium on Thanksgiving Day 1993, which defensive lineman botched a fumble recovery in the final seconds that allowed Miami to kick the winning field goal?
With temperatures in the 20s and the field covered in snow and ice, Dallas appeared to have won the game when Dolphins kicker Pete Stoyanovich had his 41-yard field goal attempt blocked with 15 seconds left. But defensive tackle Leon Lett, who wasn't a regular on special teams, mistakenly thought the ball had to be recovered like a fumble. When he unfortunately touched it but failed to corral the prize, that indeed did make it a live ball, and the Dolphins promptly fell on it to retain possession. Stoyanovich then was good on a 19-yard field goal as time expired to give Miami a heartbreaking 16-14 victory. Not to worry, though, as the Cowboys never lost another game, winning eight straight on their way to capturing Super Bowl XXVIII.

14) Quarterback Clint Longley is known for his heroics in the Cowboys' 1974 Thanksgiving victory over Washington. What was his nickname?
Longley earned the nickname The Mad Bomber during training camp of his rookie year after a series of wayward passes, including one that hit Tom Landry's coaching tower. But the moniker certainly fit in this one. When Roger Staubach was knocked out of the game midway through the third quarter with the Cowboys trailing 16-3, in came Longley. All he did was proceed to throw for 203 yards and two touchdowns, the last of which was, yes, a 50-yard bomb to Drew Pearson in the final seconds to give Dallas a 24-23 win.

15) Who kicked the game-winning field goal as time expired in the Cowboys' 20-19 victory over Miami on Thanksgiving Day 2011.
The Cowboys were trailing 19-17 when they got the ball back at their own 36-yard line with 2:59 remaining in the game. But quarterback Tony Romo and tight end Jason Witten connected on a pair of passes to get across midfield, and from there running back DeMarco Murray took over, carrying the ball five times for 27 yards. That left it to Dan Bailey (No. 5), who with three seconds left on the clock split the uprights on a 28-yard field goal to send the fans home happy.

16) Who made a juggling touchdown catch in the back of the end zone to help secure a Cowboys Thanksgiving Day win over the Chiefs in 1995?
Michael Irvin had quite the battle with Chiefs CB Dale Carter all day, but the physical receiver won this one, catching a 33-yard touchdown in the 24-12 win at Texas Stadium.

17) How many multiple-interception games did Deion Sanders have with the Cowboys?
Just once in his five years with the Cowboys did Sanders have more than one interception in a game. That occurred in the 1999 Thanksgiving Day win over the Dolphins. The Cowboys picked off Dan Marino five times, including two by Sanders in the 20-0 win over Miami.

18) In the 2009 win over the Chiefs that saw Miles Austin's record-breaking day, what quarterback started for Kansas City that day but later played for the Cowboys?
Veteran Matt Cassel had a 14-year career with seven different teams, including a four-year stint with the Chiefs from 2009-12. He played one season in Dallas in 2015.

19) In the 2017 Cowboys-Chiefs game at AT&T Stadium, rookie Patrick Mahomes was the backup quarterback for Kansas City. Who was the starting QB?
Alex Smith was the starting quarterback that season for Kansas City as Mahomes was mostly the backup, playing in only one game. Smith played 14 years in the NFL and that season, went 9-6 as a starter for the Chiefs.

20) Who is the only Cowboys head coach undefeated on Thanksgiving Day?
Wade Phillips (right) went 3-0 in his three games as head coach of the Cowboys on Thanksgiving. In 2008, he led the Cowboys to a win over Seattle and coach Mike Holmgren (left). Phillips was fired midway through the 2010 season and didn't coach that season on Thanksgiving, which was coached by Jason Garrett.
