The answers for the Cowboys-Cardinals trivia questions leading up to Monday's Week 8 game.

1) Which Cowboys wideout racked up 227 receiving yards in a 20-19 win over Detroit on Dec. 30, 2023, the fourth most in franchise history.
Behind a career-high 13 catches, CeeDee Lamb's 227 yards was the most by a Cowboys player since Miles Austin posted 250 at Kansas City in 2009. Lamb also had a 92-yard touchdown in the first quarter, which is the second-longest pass play in franchise history. Detroit scored with 23 seconds left to pull to within one, but Lions head coach Dan Campbell decided to go for the two-point conversion three different times when penalties negated the first two attempts. After finally failing, the visitors tried an onside kick, but fittingly Lamb came down with the ball to seal the win.

2) The Cowboys' victory at Detroit on Dec. 9, 2007, clinched the NFC East title, their first since 1998. Who led the effort with a career-high three touchdowns in the game?
Down 27-14 entering the fourth quarter, Dallas proceeded to score 14 unanswered points, which included a game-winning touchdown catch by Jason Witten with only 18 seconds left. But it was running back Marion Barber who provided the Cowboys' other three scores in the game, a personal best. And the second of those, which occurred with 29 seconds remaining in the first half, came on an 8-yard catch, one of just six touchdown receptions he had over his seven-year career.

3) This long-time Lions receiver scored the first touchdown in Cowboys history and was also the team's first Pro Bowler.
Jim Doran spent nine seasons in Detroit from 1951-59 before being selected by the Cowboys in the 1960 expansion draft. In the team's inaugural game, played on Sept. 24, 1960, against the Steelers, he would haul in a pass and race to the end zone for a 75-yard touchdown, the first in franchise history. Unfortunately, Dallas lost to Pittsburgh, 35-28, but Doran would go on to lead the team in both catches (31) and receiving yards (554) that season to earn both the Cowboys' only Pro Bowl invite and the only one of his career.

4) What was the combined point total for the Cowboys and Lions in their divisional-round showdown during the 1970 playoffs?
This was the Doomsday Defense at its finest as the unit was directly responsible for the entirety of the scoring (or lack thereof) in this game. Defensive end Larry Cole (pictured celebrating afterward with team president Tex Schramm) and company not only kept the Lions out of the end zone, but they also set up a 26-yard field goal in the first quarter with a fumble recovery and then sacked Lions quarterback Greg Landry in the end zone for a fourth-quarter safety. Behind that effort, the Cowboys won 5-0, the lowest combined point total for a playoff game in NFL history. The shutout also marked 21 straight quarters – or five-plus games – that the Dallas defense did not give up a touchdown.

5) On the other end of the spectrum, the Cowboys scored a franchise-high 59 points in a game against Detroit on Sept. 15, 1968. What two players both scored a pair of rushing touchdowns in the win?
After Detroit jumped out to a six-point lead, Dallas came back with 38 unanswered points of their own on the way to a 59-13 victory. That set the club record, since tied, for most points in a game, and the 46-point difference is still the second-highest margin of victory in Cowboys annals. There were plenty of heroes in this one, but Dan Reeves (pictured) and Walt Garrison both had two rushing touchdowns on the day, one of only four times in franchise history, both regular season and playoffs, that two players have had two rushing scores in the same game.

6) This Lions wideout set the record for most receiving yards by a Cowboys opponent in a 31-30 defeat of Dallas on Oct. 27, 2013. Who was it?
In one of the greatest performances in NFL history, future Hall of Famer Calvin Johnson posted 329 receiving yards in the Lions' victory, which is not only the most ever by a Dallas opponent for a single game but ranks second all-time in league record books. This was a wild affair as the two teams combined for 41 points in the fourth quarter, the most points scored during the final frame in Cowboys history. But despite owning a 10-point lead with 6:45 left on the clock, Dallas would eventually lose on a Matthew Stafford 1-yard quarterback sneak with 12 seconds remaining.

7) Which player returned a punt 97 yards against Detroit on Nov. 21, 2010, the second-longest punt return in Cowboys history.
Rookie Bryan McCann played only nine games with Dallas, but he sure made them count. In his second NFL outing, on Nov. 14 at the Giants, he picked off a pass in the end zone and returned it 101 yards for a touchdown, the longest pick six in team record books. During a Lions punt the very next week, a Detroit player tipped the ball to keep it from crossing the goal line only to have McCann then scoop it up and race 97 yards for the touchdown, the second longest ever for a Cowboy. For his efforts, he was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week and then Special Teams Player of the Week, the first in club history to earn the honor in two different categories during a single season.

8) Lions head coach Dan Campbell was born in Texas, played his high school football an hour or so southwest of AT&T Stadium in Glen Rose, and later spent three seasons with the Cowboys (2003-05). Where did he play his college football?
A Texan through and through, Campbell was a four-year letter winner at Texas A&M (1995-98), where he helped the Aggies capture the 1997 Big 12 South championship and the 1998 Big 12 title. In that final season, he earned an honorable mention All-Big 12 nod as a tight end, but after also serving as a team captain, he was given the highest honor for a Texas A&M senior football player, the Aggie Heart Award. In addition, Campbell was recognized with the Aggies' 2025 Letterman's Lifetime Achievement Award.

9) What Dallas defensive lineman recorded two fumble recoveries in the Cowboys' showdown against the Lions in the 2014 wild-card round of the playoffs, the second of which was also a strip-sack that sealed the 24-20 win?
DeMarcus Lawrence went from would-be goat to hero in just a few snaps. Although the Cowboys had a four-point lead with just over two minutes remaining, quarterback Matthew Stafford, a Dallas native, had the Lions on the move. And they'd been helped earlier in the possession when the rookie Lawrence picked up a fumble but tried to run with it, only to then fumble himself, which allowed Detroit to recover it and keep the drive going. But on fourth-and-3 at the Dallas 42-yard line, this time Lawrence forced Stafford to fumble, fell on the ball himself and stayed put, securing the Cowboys victory.

10) The Cowboys' Emmitt Smith and Detroit's Barry Sanders both played in the NFL for nine seasons from 1990-98. Who scored more touchdowns during that span?
These two NFL greats were Pro Bowl teammates six times, but while Sanders (left) posted 16,438 yards from scrimmage during the regular season to Smith's 15,175, Emmitt (right) actually reached the end zone at a much higher rate, scoring 134 touchdowns to Barry's 95. Only four times did they face off against each other in a game with Sanders' side winning three of those, including a victory in the divisional round of the 1991 playoffs. Similarly, Sanders had the advantage in postseason yardage, 480 to 424, but Smith totaled four touchdowns to his counterpart's two.

11) During the 2024 NFL Draft, the Cowboys traded pick No. 24 and a seventh-rounder in 2025 to the Lions for pick No. 29 and a third-round choice. Who did Dallas then take with those two 2024 selections?
Using the picks acquired from Detroit, the Cowboys bolstered their offensive line in a big way during the 2024 draft, grabbing Oklahoma right tackle Tyler Guyton (left) with the 29th overall pick and then later guard Cooper Beebe (right) out of Kansas State with the 73rd selection. Both players are now starters along the team's current offensive line, Guyton at left tackle and Beebe at center.
12) True or false. Despite totaling 554 yards on offense and giving up just 200 yards on defense in a Sept. 15, 1985, game against the Lions, the Cowboys somehow managed to lose.
True. This marks the only game in Cowboys history where they gained more than 500 yards on offense and surrendered just 200 or fewer yards on defense but still lost. They also set a then-team mark with 33 first downs, scored 21 points in the fourth quarter and dominated the time of possession, 34:26 to 25:34. Danny White (right) and Gary Hogeboom (left) combined to set the Cowboys record for pass attempts with 62, and it was also the first time, and one of only two occasions in club history, that two players earned at least 150 receiving yards in the same game as Tony Hill had 181 and Doug Cosbie 159. Regardless, despite all that statistical success, thanks to five turnovers the Cowboys unbelievably lost, 26-21. Overall, Dallas has totaled 500 yards while giving up 200 or less seven times, but in the other six games they won by double-digits.

13) What current Cowboys defensive end was originally drafted by the Lions in 2022 and spent his first two-plus seasons in Detroit?
After a senior season at Jackson State that saw him record 16.5 sacks and force seven fumbles, James Houston was drafted in the sixth round by the Lions. And despite not getting in a game until Nov. 14 and playing in only seven contests during his rookie campaign, he recorded eight sacks to finish second on the team. Unfortunately, he missed all but two games in 2023 due to injury, then saw time with both Detroit and Cleveland last season. Signed as a free agent by the Cowboys in July, he's leading Dallas this year with 4.5 sacks.

14) Who was the Cowboys' starting quarterback in their 1991 divisional round playoff matchup at Detroit?
Continuing with our season-long reunion tour of Steve Beuerlein, he was the man behind center when the Cowboys traveled to Detroit to take on the Lions in the second round of the 1991 playoffs. But after leading Dallas to six straight victories to reach this point, the magic ran out in the Motor City. Beuerlein completed just seven passes for 91 yards and threw a costly pick six that essentially decided the game. Troy Aikman came on in relief in the second quarter but fared no better as the Lions ran away with a dominating 38-6 victory.

15) What linebacker set the Cowboys' rookie record for sacks in a game with three against the Lions on Oct. 6, 1975?
This is a bit of a trick question because, of course, Randy White went on to make the Pro Football Hall of Fame as a defensive tackle. But in his first two seasons, he was primarily used at linebacker with some snaps at defensive end as well. Also, sacks weren't an official NFL statistic until 1982, but the Cowboys kept track of "traps" back then, and White was credited with three, setting the team rookie record (since tied). Just for good measure, he also recovered two fumbles. Overall, the Doomsday Defense totaled a whopping 11 sacks that day, which still ranks third in team history, on the way to a 36-10 drubbing of the Lions. Offensively, another future Hall of Famer, Drew Pearson, earned a career-high 188 receiving yards with two touchdowns.

16) Lions Hall of Fame running back Barry Sanders won the 1988 Heisman Trophy for his incredible season at Oklahoma State. What eventual Cowboys quarterback finished second in the voting?
Rodney Peete finished second in the 1988 Heisman Trophy voting behind Barry Sanders. The USC quarterback edged out Troy Aikman, the UCLA quarterback for third. Peete went on to play 15 years in the NFL, including his first five in Detroit. He also spent one season in Dallas as Aikman's backup in 1994.

17) What seventh-round draft pick of the Cowboys in 2018 actually started a game for the Lions, against Dallas in 2019?
In 2019, Bo Scarborough made his NFL debut as a running back for the Lions. Ironically, he played against the team that drafted him. The Cowboys picked him in the seventh round in 2018 but eventually released him. Scarborough rushed for 55 yards and a touchdown in that game, but the Cowboys won, 35-27. Scarborough only played in seven games for his entire career.

18) Who caught Dez Bryant's only touchdown pass of his career?
In a 2016 blowout over the Lions, Dez Bryant tossed a touchdown pass to Jason Witten. Bryant only threw one pass for his entire career, resulting in this play, giving him a 147.9 career QB rating. As for Witten, he caught TDs from 12 players in his career but Bryant is the only non-quarterback.

19) What was the name fans gave for Tony Romo's impromptu touchdown celebration after his last-minute TD pass to Terrance Williams to beat the Lions in the 2014 NFC Wild Card round?
Laying flat on his stomach, Tony Romo could only raise his arms forward after he realized he threw a game-winning TD to Terrance Williams. Plain and simple, the fans dubbed the celebration as "Romo-ing."

20) True or False: Barry Sanders and Troy Aikman finished 1st and 3rd, respectively, in the 1988 Heisman Trophy voting, but the two flipped spots months later in the NFL Draft?
True. Sanders won the 1988 Heisman Trophy and Aikman finished third behind Rodney Peete (USC). But in the ensuring NFL Draft, Aikman went No. 1 to Dallas, followed by Tony Mandarich to Green Bay and then Sanders, who was picked by the Lions. Ironically, the Cowboys ended up with three of the Top 6 players in that draft, landing Deion Sanders (5th) and Broderick Thomas (6th) through free agency in the 1990s.
