The answers for the Cowboys-Cardinals trivia questions leading up to Monday's Week 8 game.

1) What current Cowboys linebacker was originally drafted by the Chargers and twice recorded over 100 tackles for the Los Angeles club?
Kenneth Murray was selected 23rd overall by the Chargers in 2020 after a standout collegiate career at Oklahoma. He then led L.A. with 107 tackles in his rookie year, a total he matched in 2023. A year ago, he was in Tennessee, where he topped the Titans in takedowns (95) before being acquired by Dallas in a trade last March. Murray is now on pace to lead the Cowboys in tackles this season with a chance to surpass the century mark for a third time.

2) This Pro Football Hall of Fame receiver played nine seasons with the Chargers from 1962-70 before wrapping up his career with two years in Dallas, where he helped the Cowboys win Super Bowl VI.
Lance Alworth was a true star of the American Football League, earning six All-AFL honors and seven trips to the All-Star Game. Nicknamed Bambi, he was also named the AFL Player of the Year in 1963, and he's a member of both the AFL All-Time Team and the NFL 100th Anniversary Team. Acquired by Dallas in a trade prior to the 1971 season, Alworth would help the Cowboys win Super Bowl VI, recording the game's first touchdown on a 7-yard catch.

3) As part of the previously mentioned trade with the Chargers, the Cowboys sent San Diego this tight end whose work off the field overshadowed his accomplishments on the field. Who was he?
Discovered at tiny Johnson C. Smith in North Carolina, Pettis Norman played nine seasons in Dallas from 1962-70 before being traded to the Chargers. He recorded 1,672 yards and 14 touchdowns with the Cowboys, marks that still rank seventh among tight ends in team history. But away from the game, Norman became a key figure in Dallas' civil rights movement, helping to organize marches and, along with Dave Manders, breaking the Cowboys' own color barrier in 1965 as they became the first Black and White players to share a room together. Though he later declined an opportunity to run for mayor, Norman stayed involved in the community throughout his life, notably with the Dallas Together Forum he founded. He passed away in July of this year at the age of 86.

4) After his Thanksgiving heroics in 1974, what Cowboys backup quarterback was traded to the Chargers two years later?
The highlight of Clint Longley's career was leading Dallas on a furious comeback to defeat rival Washington, 24-23, on Thanksgiving Day 1974. But two seasons later, with Danny White now on hand to supplant him as the backup quarterback behind Roger Staubach, a frustrated Longley decided he'd force the Cowboys to trade him. How did he do it? By sucker-punching Staubach during training camp. That definitely did the trick as he was quickly packed off to San Deigo. However, he only played four games with the Chargers in what turned out to be his final action in the NFL.

6) In their first game following the 9/11 tragedy, which player was carrying the United States flag when the Cowboys took the field to face the Chargers?
The NFL rightfully delayed games by a week after the 9/11 tragedy, so the Cowboys matchup against the Chargers was pushed back to Sept. 19, 2001. A truly emotional day, when it was time for the players to come out of the locker room and take the field, safety George Teague ran out of the tunnel carrying the flag high. Unfortunately, Dallas fell behind 14-0 in the first quarter and could never recover, eventually losing 32-21.

7) What personal best did Dak Prescott record during the Cowboys' 20-17 win at the Chargers on Oct. 16, 2023?
The Cowboys' first touchdown in this Monday night game came courtesy of Prescott, although he scored using his legs, not his arm. On fourth-and-1 at the Chargers 18-yard line, the quarterback sprinted off right tackle and all the way to the end zone, the longest rushing touchdown of his career. Of course, Prescott would also go on to throw a 2-yard scoring pass, one of 23 times during his time with the Cowboys that he's produced a touchdown both ways in a single game, which is a team record.

8) On Nov. 5, 1972, in the first-ever meeting between the Cowboys and Chargers, this Dallas running back returned a special teams fumble 54 yards for a touchdown, the only one of his career.
Less than two minutes into the game, the Cowboys found themselves punting from their own 14-yard line, and the Chargers appeared to have great field position when the ensuing boot was a short one. Instead, the return was muffed, and Mike Montgomery picked up the fumble and raced 54 yards for the score. Dallas would go on to pick off three passes and block a field goal in the game while Montgomery would also complete a pass for 31 yards. Behind that overall effort, the Cowboys took a 31-7 lead into the fourth quarter and then held off a furious Chargers rally to win, 34-28.

10) On Sept. 11, 2005, at San Diego, cornerback Aaron Glenn intercepted a pass in the end zone with only 30 seconds left to secure a 28-24 win for the Cowboys. But what future Pro Football Hall of Fame linebacker also made his rookie debut in the game?
This matchup saw the 11th overall pick in the 2005 draft, DeMarcus Ware, play in his first official NFL contest. And while he didn't immediately explode onto the scene, finishing with just two tackles on the day, success would come soon enough. By the time he left the team to join Denver in 2014, Ware had racked up 117 sacks overall in Dallas, the most in franchise record books. He was inducted into both the Cowboys Ring of Honor and Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2023.

10) Which former Cowboys quarterback grew up in Wisconsin but was actually born in San Diego, the original home of the Chargers?
Although Tony Romo grew up in Burlington, Wisconsin, he was born in San Diego while his father Ramiro was serving in the Navy. During his career, Tony started only one game back in his birthplace, facing the Chargers on Sept. 29, 2013. And he had a good day, throwing for 246 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions for a 108.6 passer rating. Despite his efforts, though, the Cowboys fell to the Chargers, 30-21.

11) Who kicked the winning field goal in the Cowboys' last-second 20-17 win over the Chargers on Sept. 19, 2021?
Greg Zuerlein had put Dallas ahead earlier in the fourth quarter with a 34-yard field goal, but the Chargers had equaled the score, 17-17, with just under four minutes to play. The visitors, though, would never touch the ball again. The Cowboys went on an 11-play, 49-yard drive to the Los Angeles 38-yard line, where Zuerlein kicked a 56-yard field goal through the uprights as the clock hit zeros to give Dallas the win.

12) How many Cowboys players totaled at least 30 yards receiving in the team's 42-31 win over the Chargers on Oct. 26, 1980, tying a team record?
This was the definition of a team effort as six different players posted at least 30 receiving yards in the victory, tying a club record that has been done only 14 times. Tight end Billy Joe Dupree (pictured) led the charge with just 45 receiving yards while there were actually three more players, including Drew Pearson, who finished with fewer than 30 yards, making a total of nine players who had at least one catch. Strangely, seven different Cowboys also had at least one rush in the game, one of only 50 occasions in franchise history that has happened.

13) This Cowboys wide receiver, who is also third in franchise history with 111 punt returns, finished up his NFL career with two seasons in San Diego.
Patrick Crayton was selected in the seventh round of the 2004 draft and went on to spend six seasons in Dallas before wrapping things up with the Chargers. Three times he led the Cowboys in both punt and kickoff returns, including in 2009 when he finished fourth in the NFL with 437 punt return yards. He also returned two for touchdowns that year, which tied for first in the league. On offense, Crayton totaled 2,888 receiving yards for Dallas with 23 touchdown catches, the only player in team history to earn more than 20 touchdown grabs with fewer than 3,000 receiving yards.

14) The Cowboys scored 14 points in the fourth quarter to complete a come-from-behind victory at the Chargers on Nov. 16, 1986. Who was leading the charge at quarterback that day?
With Danny White injured, it was Steve Pelluer behind center for the Cowboys. Early in the fourth quarter, he and the team found themselves trailing 21-10, and while a blocked punt led to a Herschel Walker touchdown, the Cowboys were still behind when they got the ball back again with 2:09 remaining. But that's when Pelluer really went to work. He completed passes of 11, 23 and 25 yards before stealing the 24-21 win by running the final 2 yards himself for the touchdown.

15) What rare feat did the powerhouse backfield combo of Emmitt Smith and Daryl Johnston accomplish in the Cowboys' 23-9 win over the Chargers on Oct. 15, 1995?
Running back Emmitt Smith (left) and fullback Daryl Johnston (right) played 10 seasons together from 1990-99, but only six times did they both score rushing touchdowns in the same regular season game. That included this victory against the Chargers when Smith hit pay dirt twice in the first half and Johnston crossed the goal line in the third quarter. If you add in receiving touchdowns, the pair both scored in the same regular season game 14 times overall during their careers, which stood for 27 years as an NFL record by a running back combo until broken this season by Detroit's Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery. Smith and Johnston also turned the trick twice in the playoffs.

**16) What quarterback started the season finale for the Cowboys in 2024 but is now the backup with the Chargers?
Trey Lance spent most of his two years as a backup in Dallas. But in the 2024 regular-season finale against Washington, Lance got his first start with the Cowboys, and nearly led them to a win, only to see the Commanders score in the final seconds to grab a 23-19 win. Lance went 20-of-34 for 244 yards in the game. He hit free agency in March and signed with the Chargers, where he's been the backup to Justin Herbert.

**17) What Cowboys linebacker scored his second career interception for a touchdown when he picked off Philip Rivers in a 2013 game in San Diego.
Sean Lee had his longest return of his career when he rumbled for 52 yards for a touchdown against the Chargers in 2013. Lee caught a deflected pass and raced to the end zone for his second career touchdown.

**18) What future Hall of Famer opened his NFL debut against the Chargers, with one of his worst performances of his career?
Emmitt Smith's most famous holdout was in 1993 when he started the season without a contract and missed two games, only to come back and win NFL and Super Bowl MVP. But another holdout occurred in his rookie season in 1990. Smith only signed his deal just a few days before the Week 1 game against the Chargers. Smith had just two carries for two yards, but eventually picked it up, rushing for 937 yards and 11 touchdowns to earn his first Pro Bowl selection.
