Mailbag: Concern About Tyron Smith? Moving Taco To Other Positions?

JOHNNY BROOKS

BATTLEFIELD, MO

What's the real story with Tyron's back issues?  Is this something a offseason surgery can fix or is he going to battle this his whole career? I am concerned this might turn into a Charles Haley issue where he misses *practice a lot just to get ready for game day, and he is so young still. Should we be alarmed?*

Bryan:I don't have a great answer here. It's a back problem and it appears with rest, it's okay. I am sure there is something they could do about it in the off season, but for now they are managing it the best they can. Worried? No. Concerned? Yes.

David: I think the Cowboys thought that an offseason of rest would cure Tyron of his ailments, but that obviously hasn't been the case. I'm not alarmed, because these issues aren't forcing him to miss games as of yet. But I'm not going to be surprised if this is a problem that will require him to undergo surgery once the season is over.

Is it possible for the Cowboys to rotate Taco Charlton to the LE instead of him playing the RE position, since he is struggling against the opposing team's LT?

Bryan: He's playing both sides and you're right, some of his best rushes have been off that left side so it makes sense to have him there.

David:I'd love to see them try something, anything, to help him establish some confidence. I've been saying for a while that I'd like to see him play some tackle, perhaps in pass rush situations. Or perhaps more rushes from the left side is the answer. Either way, there's got to be something they could do to scheme him some more favorable looks.
