Rookie Tapper Working His Way Back From Back Injury

FRISCO, Texas – Rookie defensive end Charles Tapper has not practiced since mid-August due to a back injury, but head coach Jason Garrett said the team is hopeful he can return in the next few days.

"He's making progress," Garrett said.

Tapper missed all four preseason games with what he described as a back fracture, known as a pars defect, that sidelined him the week of the preseason opener against the L.A. Rams.

The fourth-round pick has been working diligently with the athletic training staff, and he's looking forward to eventually making his NFL debut.

"Mentally I haven't missed anything because I'm studying film, watching the older guys and all the key things that I can do to stay active," Tapper said.

In the meantime, the Cowboys' defense will get ready for the Giants with a defensive end group that includes Jack Crawford, David Irving and Benson Mayowa. Linebacker Kyle Wilber also has the ability to rush the passer from defensive end.
