Gray can line up against a tight end, running back or wide receiver in man coverage and find equal amounts of success. He has a combination of strength that allows him to play above his size and athleticism that keeps him moving with twitchier weapons. Gray struggles with most run game situations, as he may be better suited to play on later passing downs rather than early running downs. An extension of his run game issues also showed up with multiple missed tackles in 2023.

OVERVIEW: Gray was a dangerous weapon for North Carolina in his final three seasons in defending the pass, as he was able to line up and cover offensive threats across the middle of the field along with rushing the passer out of the second level (8.5 sacks and 18 pass breakups across his final three seasons). He racked up triple-digit tackles in each of those seasons (369 total tackles) and finished his Tar Heel career with back-to-back AP First-Team All-ACC honors.
