2024 NFL Draft Safety Prospects

Heading into last season, the Cowboys’ safety group was seen as one of the real strengths of the defense, and for the most part they lived up to the billing. In addition, nearly everyone is returning with the lone exception perhaps being free agent Jayron Kearse. However, that means starters Malik Hooker and Donovan Wilson will still be roaming the secondary, the former ranking fifth among NFL safeties in run defense by Pro Football Focus and 14th overall. Juanyeh Thomas could also see a bigger role after an impressive first-year effort, and expect Markquese Bell to move back to primarily safety in Mike Zimmer’s defense following a 2023 campaign that saw him line up as an undersized linebacker. So after years of neglecting the position, the Cowboys again find themselves relatively secure here. Adding depth through the draft is always a late-round option, but with so many other areas needing attention, safety seemingly won’t be a priority.
