PRO CON
Big man with the mindset that “low man wins.” Barner gets great leverage off the line of scrimmage and is a technician with his hands in combat. Doesn’t waste motion as a blocker and is not afraid to finish a defender. Has good hands and first step as a receiver. Barner doesn’t possess any high-level play speed on film. Limited in the receiving game to short and intermediate route combinations. Not a great route runner, but his struggles should be fixable at the next level. Will sometimes get off the line slowly.

OVERVIEW: After Michigan sent Luke Schoonmaker to the Cowboys in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft, the Wolverines needed a well-versed blocker to lead the way up front. They found that with Barner who transferred to Ann Arbor after three seasons with Indiana. He was ready for the challenge and was thrust into a similar role that Schoonmaker had filled previously as a capable lead blocker for a powerful rushing attack. Barner's receiving numbers will never jump off the page, but he is a reliable option in that area as well.
