Brees Practices Wednesday; Cowboys Preparing For Both Saints QBs

IRVING, Texas – The Cowboys don't know if they'll face Saints quarterback Drew Brees for a sixth time in seven years or his backup, Luke McCown, this Sunday night.

The Saints officially listed Brees as a limited participant in their Wednesday practice after he sat out Week 3 with a bruised rotator cuff.

"We have great respect for both of those guys," Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said, "and we're going to have to prepare for the system, for each quarterback and really more than anything else just focus on us and our preparation to get ready to play our best ball."

Brees, a nine-time Pro Bowler, hadn't missed a game due to injury since joining the Saints in 2006 until this past Sunday at Carolina.

"I think each day it's progressively gotten better. I know he's encouraged. I think we are as well," Saints head coach Sean Payton said via conference call with the Dallas/Fort Worth media. "He was throwing it, and like I said this morning earlier to our media, each day we just kind of evaluate how he's doing."

McCown posted an impressive stat line in the Saints' 27-22 loss to the Panthers: 31-of-38 passes for 310 yards with one interception.

"I think he really had a grasp as to what we were doing. He made a lot of plays," Payton said. "Our third-down numbers were high. He avoided the rush some outside the pocket and made some plays. I think his performance was real good."
