Could Cowboys Open In Primetime Again?

IRVING, Texas --The NFL schedule is typically announced in April, but already we know the Super Bowl champion Giants will open the regular season at home against an unnamed opponent Wednesday, Sept. 5, on NBC -- one night before President Barack Obama addresses the Democratic National Convention.

The Cowboys are always a candidate for a primetime opener, particularly this year against a division rival. Last year they played the Jets at Metlife Stadium on the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in New York.

Educated guess on this year's opener? Unlikely.

NBC aired both Cowboys-Giants games last year, including the schedule flex of the teams' winner-take-all season finale at the Meadowlands. FOX would probably like to take back one, if not both, of those games this year. Plus, the Giants always seem to fall on the Cowboys' schedule at least once in December/January.

The Packers and Saints might be more likely opener opponents for the Giants.
