Cowboys Claim RB Smith Off Waivers; Team Back To Full 53-Man Roster

IRVING, Texas – The Cowboys filled their open 53-man roster spot Wednesday by claiming running back Rod Smith off waivers from the Seattle Seahawks.

The Seahawks signed Smith (6-3, 226), an undrafted rookie out of Ohio State, from their practice squad for last Sunday's game against the Cincinnati Bengals and subsequently released him on Tuesday.

The game against Cincinnati was Smith's NFL debut. He had two carries for five yards.

The Cowboys had an open roster spot after waiving wide receiver Vince Mayle, whom they had signed from their practice squad for depth in last Sunday's game against the New England Patriots.

Smith joins a running back depth chart that includes Joseph Randle, Darren McFadden and Christine Michael. For the second time this season the Cowboys have four running backs on the active roster, in addition to fullback Tyler Clutts. Running back Lance Dunbar was placed on injured reserve last week with a torn ACL that required surgery.
