FRISCO, Texas – The Cowboys have agreed to terms on a one-year deal with offensive lineman Matt Hennessy.

Hennessy, 28, played in all 17 games for the 49ers in 2025, starting in two. He joined San Francisco in 2024 after being signed off the Falcons' practice squad.

Atlanta selected Hennessy in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft out of Temple, where he earned first-team All-AAC honors and was a third-team All-American in 2019.

In his second season, Hennessy started all 17 games for the Falcons at center. The following year in 2022, he suffered a knee injury that placed him on injured reserve until the last two games of the season. In training camp of the 2023 season, Hennessy suffered another knee injury and did not play during the season.

After those four years in Atlanta, Hennessy spent a few months in the 2024 offseason with the Eagles and eventually went back to Atlanta in September, joining the practice squad and ended up playing four games. After he was signed back to the practice squad, the 49ers signed him to their active roster in December of 2024.

Depth on the offensive line has turned out to be a very important area of the roster for the Cowboys in recent years, and Hennessy gives Dallas experience playing both center and guard.

Entering the offseason, two of the Cowboys' most valuable depth players on the offensive line in T.J. Bass and Brock Hoffman became restricted free agents. Dallas placed a second-round tender on Bass, but elected not to place a tender on Hoffman, making him an unrestricted free agent.

Should Hoffman elect to sign elsewhere in free agency, Hennessy gives the Cowboys a player with similar experience at multiple positions on the interior of the offensive line.
