Cowboys Re-sign Brice Butler, Helping Stabilize Wide Receiver Depth

FRISCO, Texas– The Cowboys have re-signed Brice Butler on the eve of free agency, keeping the four-year veteran receiver in Dallas.

Terms of the deal have not yet been disclosed.

Arriving in a 2015 trade with the Oakland Raiders, Butler has appeared in 23 games with Dallas over the last two seasons, catching 28 passes for 477 yards and three touchdowns.

The Cowboys' wide receiver depth is still a unclear, though, with Terrance Williams set to become an unrestricted free agent when the new league year begins Thursday at 3 p.m. Central Time.

Butler was also set to be an unrestricted free agent Thursday. Speaking at the Senior Bowl in January, Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said the team would like to re-sign both receivers.[embeddedad0]

Williams' future is unclear, but Butler's return gives the Cowboys a wideout with starting experience.

A hamstring injury limited Butler to seven games in 2015, but last season he stepped up in three starts for an injured Dez Bryant. Two of his three touchdowns came in starts against the San Francisco 49ers, Cincinnati Bengals and Green Bay Packers.
