Garrett Found The 'Right Kind Of Guys'

It's not a unique strategy by any means, but new head coach Jason Garrett clearly had a particular type of player in mind for each of the Cowboys' eight draft picks.

The Cowboys feel all eight choices have the physical talent to contribute. But they also believe all eight have high character, strong work ethic and a desire to get better. Garrett, an undrafted quarterback who carved out a long career as a backup, knows those qualities are just as important for success.

"Part of that is being the right kind of guy," Garrett said. "You want guys who love to play football and show you that they love it each and every day."

During his tenure as head coach, Bill Parcells was drawn to prospects who had been captains in college. Garrett appears to share that appeal. At least four picks -- Bruce Carter, David Arkin, Dwayne Harris and Shaun Chapas -- were captains.
