Garrett Happy For Pro Bowl Selections; Downplays Dez Snub

IRVING, Texas - On Wednesday night it was announced the Cowboys had two players selected to this season's Pro Bowl game, both of whom are quite familiar with the honor.

Jason Witten was selected to the eight Pro Bowl of his career and DeMarcus Ware was selected to his seventh straight. Both players have been cornerstones to the Cowboys for nearly a decade and were both deserving of the honor.

Thursday morning, the first question asked to head coach Jason Garrett in his daily press conference centered on the honor.

"DeMarcus Ware and Jason Witten were both named to the Pro Bowl and we thought very deserving," Garrett said. "They've been two of the best players at their positions and two of the best players in this league for a long time. They bring it every week. They're very productive guys. They're great leaders for our team. They go about it the right way and they're great representatives of the Dallas Cowboys and of the National Football League."

However, the inclusion of Ware and Witten was not the only story coming out of the Pro Bowl announcements. The Dallas Cowboys arguably had a few notable snubs as well including Dez Bryant, Dan Baily, Tony Romo and Anthony Spencer.

Garrett talked about whether or not he thought Ware and Witten were the only players on the Cowboys deserving of the honor.

"I don't want to get into the specifics of all that," Garrett said. "There were some other guys on our team that we thought had Pro Bowl-type years. But guys get selected for a lot of different reasons and these guys need to feel good about how they played. A number of guys on our team need to feel good about how they played regardless of what the Pro Bowl balloting was."

Perhaps the most surprising name left of the Pro Bowl roster was Dez Bryant. Despite a relatively slow start, Bryant caught fire later in the season and currently ranks second in the NFL with 12 touchdowns and fourth in the NFC in receiving yards with 1,311. He is also coming off of a two-touchdown, 205-yard performance last Sunday.

Garrett was asked specifically about Bryant being denied the chance to play in the Pro Bowl.

"We don't talk a whole lot about the individual accolades," Garret said. "It's a great honor for DeMarcus and for Jason Witten and those guys are very well deserving of that. The Pro Bowl gets picked for a couple of different reasons and that's just the way it's been for a long time. Certainly Dez has had as good a year as any receiver in the National Football League and his impact on our team has been really significant."
