Name: Ben BassPosition: Defensive EndHeight/Weight:6-5, 283Age: 22College: Texas A&MNFL Exp:RookieHow Acquired: FA for '12Hometown:Plano, TX.
Fitting in:The Cowboys picked up Ben Bass as an undrafted free agent. Injuries to defensive linemen Jason Hatcher, Jay Ratliff and Marcus Spears have allowed Ben Bass to get more reps than might have been expected. He will have to showcase his skills in whatever playing time he gets in preseason games in order to make the final roster of 53 or he could also find a spot on the practice squad.
So Far:Bass has looked impressive in camp thus far and has earned a reputation as a high-energy, high-motor guy. He fought through linemen in Sunday's Blue-White Scrimmage and he has also looked good in one-on-one drills.
Best Asset:Bass claims that defensive line coach, Brian Baker, describes him as "slippery." He believes that he can read plays and read blocks very quickly and he is working on making plays as quickly as he reads them.* *
You Should Know:Bass understands there's a rookie transition period, but he does not feel like his competition is on a different level than him. He says, "it's not like I'm less physical than them. They're not so much stronger than me."
Talking Point:"Our whole defensive line is a very physical, gritty group, but they're a bunch of loving guys. They're willing to help you out. They're willing to show you small things that will help you not only now, but in the future. They're a bunch of great guys."
