Kitna Out; McGee The Backup QB Sunday

While the Cowboys hope this situation never arises come Sunday, but there will be a new backup quarterback for Tony Romo against the Redskins.

Veteran Jon Kitna, who missed Thursday and Friday's practices with a back injury, did not make the trip with his teammates to Washington D.C. on Saturday afternoon, meaning Stephen McGee will serve as the No. 2 quarterback, a role he had for the last 10 games of 2010 when Romo had the broken collarbone.

McGee actually played two games, starting the season finale in Philadelphia and getting a last-second victory.

As for Kitna, he also missed a few practices in training camp with a back injury, but was able to play that weekend in the preseason game.

The Cowboys have been running with just two quarterbacks on game day for most of the season, with McGee being inactive for all but three games this year.
