Murray, Church To IR; Morris, Safety Signed

IRVING, Texas --The Cowboys began their short practice week Tuesday with a flurry of roster moves, most notably placing rookie running back DeMarco Murray (ankle) and safety Barry Church (shoulder) on injured reserve.

The team will replace their 53-man roster spots by signing veteran running back Sammy Morris, who played with Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett in Miami in 2004, and safety Mana Silva off Buffalo's practice squad.

Morris also was on the 2005 Dolphins team when Garrett became their quarterbacks coach. The 11-year veteran had spent the last four seasons with New England. Murray's fractured ankle, which is expected to require surgery, left Felix Jones as the only healthy back on the active roster.

Church separated his shoulder against the Giants and was expected to miss significant time. Silva, an undrafted rookie out of Hawaii, also spent time on the Ravens' practice squad.

Cornerback C.J. Wilson also has been signed to the practice squad, filling the spot left open by wide receiver Andre Holmes' promotion to the active roster.
